So I was looking on Harbor Freight when I found this spring compressor. Great price and looks pretty beefy!

By the way, you can go to the website and find search for all kinds of tools. They also have a spring compressor that uses locking safety pins for $11!

I need one of those. That does look pretty beefy. Was thinking of going Craftsman, but this looks like it might work better.

Most Harbor Freight stuff is cheaply made and comes from China.

That being said, they are cheap enough to buy them for one-time use. My policy on their stuff is to buy it and if it breaks, I buy better quality next time (if it's a tool I'm going to use again).

Their autobody tool set is junk - the dollys are hollow on the backside which means they don't have enough mass to be effective.

I bought an angle grinder from them for $20 which included an extra set of brushes. So far, this thing has held up to all manner of abuse.

Pep Boys will loan this type of tool (spring compressors) for free! They just require a credit card imprint which they give back when you return the tool.

Faeylyn -- go with the craftsman ones ... they are far stronger and more reliable. They are the same price as the ones Shaun linked to here, but they are better made and I would recommend them long before I'd recommend the ones pictured. They might be okay and get the job done, but if you're going to spend $30+ on some coil compressors, I'd recommend going with the Craftsman ones from the start, as they will last a long time and are well-proven.

Thanks for the feedback! I have this thing about tools. I just hate paying for junk. Every time I do, it ends up the same. The compressors looked pretty strong, but I'll take everyone else's word to stay away from that site. Thanks again!

I would gladly pay $50 extra for a good pair. spring compressors, as with most tools, can be very dangerous if you get flimsy stuff. Would you lie under a car when you dont trust the jack stands and jack? COils springs are extremely strong and can very dangerous if they slip out of a flimsy compressor. Your fingers or face is worth more than a few $$ so only get stuff that are very well contructed. The ones in the picture look very suspect.
