Sonoran Steel lift install

Light racing is about $120 cheaper than camburgs. Would you reccomend them both equally or is one a little better?
From reports I've read on the LR ones I'd highly suggest purchasing the Camburgs. If cost is prohibitive and you have the tools, you can get the Camburg without the balljoint installed. Pull the ball joints from your stock UCRs and install them in the Camburgs. I just went and purchased the Camburgs with the moog ball joints pre-installed. Well worth it.

The 3rd Gen Light Racing is a better design, the 3rd gen does not have a Camburg Ball Joint arm.

For a 5th gen I would choose the Camburg over the Light Racing. For a 3rd Gen I would choose Light Racing over the Uniball Camburg Arm, they do not make a Ball Joint arm for the 3rd Gen.

I ordered the $1,270 kit last night. Can't wait for it to come in! Thanks for all the info. You guys are really helpful!
Congrats man you'll enjoy! Planning to install yourself?

Also if you haven't already, look at Wheeler's for the Camburg UCAs w/ Moog ball joints.

A friend of mine is a mechanic. Ill pay him a little bit of money to install it and teach me how to do it as we go along. I think I'm pretty much sold on the camburg UCA's at this point.

You can get the Camburg Ball Joint UCA's from Wheelers Off Road or Directly from Camburg, if you order from Camburg tell Kayla (sales girl at Camburg) that you want the Tacoma World discount. It comes out to be slightly less then Wheelers, with the discount. Either one is fine.

I'm really excited to get this lift installed. I wish there was a way to quantify the ride quality. I'm expecting it to be similar to xreas. + or - a bit. Once i get the lift installed is there any harm if i drive it with the stock wheels and tires until i get the aftermarket ones installed?

You should be good to go with stock wheels and tires. After having my lift installed for a couple weeks I love it! Its so much more stable of a ride. You might be able to feel the small imperfections a little more but over all its a lot better. Plus heck IT'S LIFTED!

It's A LOT better than X-Reas, it's TRD! Just get an alignment and run the stock wheels/tires.

Xreas is cross linked shocks, driver front to passenger rear and passenger front to driver rear. It's sports car stuff.

Kit finally came today. Im really excited to get it installed. We're building a house here in kc so we're in an apartment for the next few months. The UPS guy carried it up 3 stories to get it to me. I felt bad for him and now it'll be fun carrying it back down lol.

Congrats! Sad though. If I was any where near you id offer up my garage. The ride is a lot better!

Yeah no kidding I wish you were nearby too! My friend runs a shop and fortunately is going to be able to help me on a Saturday in the next couple weeks. I'll post pics when i have the lift on and also as soon as I get tires/wheels.

Installed the sonoran lift on the weekend. Pretty sweet, big difference over stock SR5 suspension ride quality.

thanks Steve

Great! I am glad you like it. I think it is very nice myself obviously. Our 2012 Trail has had the same lift on now for 5 years and still going strong.

Any thoughts or comparisons on the Bilstein Sonoran setup VS. Radflo 2.5 front and rear setup offered on the site?

I know the billys are just replaceable vs the 2.5 shocks needing to be rebuilt. Is there a major difference in ride quality or performance between the two? Its different springs up front so I am guessing there should be some.
I wheel once a month and take a big overland trip every 3 months or so loaded down. I will have a winch and bumper soon as well and need to be able to manage the weight. I am also wondering if the all radflo has more travel than the bilsteins, I would assume so.

+1 For Sonoran and Steve
This is my second set-up from Steve, first one for my 3rd Gen and now with my 5th Gen. Couldn't be happier!

Sonoran Steel Lift:
Front Coils: Inside Diameter 3 5/8", Spring Rate Progressive, Actual TRD part
Front Shocks: Bilstein 5100, these are the same extended length as So Cal coil overs "extended" length
Top Hat Seat: Custom Mold made by Daystar

Rear Coils: Radflo 220 Coil Rate
Rear Shocks: Bilstein 5100, same extended as stock
Trac/PanHard Bar: Sonoran Steel Adjustable

Sonoran Offered Radflo 2.5 Non Res:
Front Coils: Inside Diameter 3", Spring Rate 600, 650 and 700 Eibach Coil
Front Shocks: Radflo 2.5 in extended and standard length

Rear Coils: Radflo 220 Coil Rate
Rear Shocks: Radflo 2.5, 3/4" longer than stock (Icon is 1" longer than stock)
Trac/PanHard Bar: Sonoran Steel Adjustable

So with the simpler kit you have a very expensive ($245 each retail) TRD coil that is progressive and one size larger then a 2.5 So Cal coil over. With a simple 2.0 shock that is adjustable. The is the correct parting as the spring was designed by TRD for a 2.0 series shock. Front only comes in extended. Progressive coil can handle varying weight loads as it is one size larger. Units must be dis-assembed to adjust, but all lift heights for weight combos are already known so no guessing It works very well.

Radflo 2.5 has a straight rate very inexpensive Eibach coil along with a very expensive re-buildable hand made shock. The fronts come in standard or extended. Option of 3 straight spring rates for weight added to the truck. Front is adjustable with a spanner wrench.

Both of these work very well.

The big difference is not between these two but between the kit with the Reservoirs. A reservoir shock is always going to be better. Why because as the piston compresses up into the shock body pressure will build and you will get a bounce back effect as it builds, like a bump stop versus an air bump. With a reservoir the piston can flow the entire way without build pressure and have consistent dampening through out the stroke.

Now that being said, do you really "need" reservoirs? Probably not.

If you mainly drive your 4Runner to work and lets keep in mind these are around $38,000 trucks, go wheeling in terrain not to damage a $38,000 truck, I am assuming you don't mind pin striping, a few times a year. No you don't need reservoirs.

If you go to the FJ Summit, you do not need reservoirs.

Going to Baja California? Oh Yeah you NEED reservoirs.

Now that all being said, if you have lots of money and want the best, the best is reservoirs. Our Radflo 2.5 kit with Reservoirs and they can be upgraded with Adjusters (clickers).

If you just want something that will drive better on the street then stock and still do some pretty advanced wheeling, then or Sonoran Kit or Radflo 2.5 Non-res would be just fine.

Finally any front shock that is extended length will need UCA's. If you order standard length, then stock arms can be used. Bilstein only comes extended.

My thoughts on Bilstein 6112? Way over priced. For that money you can get a Radflo or other So Cal coil overs. Bilstein is just trying to get a piece of that (Radflo, Icon, Fox & King) pie with a factory built shock. Getting service done by them at Poway is slow and quite expensive. Other can be re-built by anyone or the manufacture. With Bilstein my take is the throw away 5100 are good, after that step up to So Cal coil over companies. Same money, hand made product.
