Went out to the 2015 FJ Summit, and on the last day on my way back on camp bird road and a rock slide occurred and landed right above my head. Glad i wasn't in a soft top jeep, I may have been killed!

Working through insurance now, but curious if anyone on here has any idea how much this will run - doesn't matter to me too much since insurance will cover it.

Yikes! That's a tough spot to have damage like that as far as repairs are concerned.

ouch! couple inched lower and you would have been eating glass. I haven't dropped the headlined but I assume that is double walled in that area.

The rock is over 5 lbs, and it easily could have killed me. Hit the truck so hard, the hard drive reset it self in the car. Luckily when I flinched, I didn't jerk the wheel or I would have driven off the edge of a 500+ foot cliff.

Took it to a really good body shop, and was also nice Toyota to talk to Toyota about it because they were at the summit. - One of the guys there who has some familiarity with their SEMA vehicles, took a look and said it is double walled, so they can't just rip the headliner out and pound it back out.

They should be able to rivet it, and pull most of it out, and (he promises) minimal filler to get it back to normal. Because there are bends and creases it won't be easy, but he thinks he can do it. I don't want to chop the roof off, since nothing ever goes well when cutting a roof off....

Oh wow! If the insurance were to total it, keep it and make it the first chop top tubed 4runner! How cool would that be?!

I was thinking the same thing. Tube it and hard top the seating area's but soft top across the back. Would be really cool looking. But that can't be cheap either way, fix it or tube it =D

Imo just take your insurance check and buy a roof rack and paint it so it doesn't rust.

Make sure you inspect the interior when you pick it up. I am pretty sure the headliner has to come off. So I would inspect the headliner for oily fingerprints... Or is that area at the edge of the door?

Can't. That area is double walled. Only way to fix it is with a slide hammer

Good to know. There is also a dent in the middle which he said wouldn't be a big deal, and some chips in my windshield - all which I'm having fixed.

That must have been very scary. I never saw mine, just heard it!

Funny you say that. I was seriously thinking about this last night. Not to my truck but buying a 4th gen that had been totalled due to roof top and pillar damage but still covering the driver/passenger seats and creating what Toyota gave us with the 1st Gens.

Do it - a half cab Runner would be pretty sweet! Chop the roof from the rear of the front doors and do a cage over the front seats. Weld the rear doors shut to make it a 2 door. It would be a fun little project.
