So.. I am now on the hunt for my third 3rd gen 4Runner. Maybe, just maybe, I'll actually do a build thread this time. Hah.

The first, 2000 4banger, which I can almost guarantee ended up in South America...

Fortunately, or unfortunately.. However you'd care to describe my current situation (as I do not particularly care to share over the net).... Yes. I am looking for a dealer owned 4R in order to unload the car payment. I'm currently up about 6K on the payments, so I won't be paying too much out of pocket for a Runner.

The goal is to find another nice 99-00 limited with the factory E-locker, but... I don't predict needing the locker too often in the immediate future, so a NICE SR5 would be acceptable. I can always drop some in later.. all the more reason to go with 35's. :der:
 
Good luck. I am trying to sell my 01 sequoia so I too can get a 99-00 runner with e-locker. I really don't want to sell it to a dealer but I am not getting many calls from my CL ad.

I appreciate the look, Tommy! "Because we offer Low, No haggle pricing on all cars we sell." Sounds like they won't budge from the $10900, and that's a bit over my price range at the moment. Awesome mileage though!

I REALLY want to go check out that black one I sent you the link to yesterday... I won't have time until POSSIBLY tomorrow afternoon, as the realtor (I know, you're a bit far away lol) shows up tomorrow at 11.. So, I'm busy staging the house til then.
 
I sold my Subaru Tribeca

outright to Carmax in order to buy a 2nd 4runner after selling my 98 too soon. Its really painless and you aren't obligated to anything should the offer not be in the ballpark.

Hrm.. Funny you should mention that. There is a brand new Carmax right down the road from me. Thanks, I'll give it a shot. What's the worst that can happen?
 
Quick report. The local Carmax offered me a bit less than I was hoping for, but it's still an option. Today I found a previously built 4Runner not 3 miles from my house. IMHO, its not in as good of shape as I was hoping.. but the problem areas are all seemingly cheap fixes.

97 Limited - (By the way, did these not come with the factory locker?)

The good: Mechanically sound, all fluids are clean and clear, 4x4 works, shifts nicely, 5x mounted 35" Dick Cepeks, Smittbilt rear bumper. 2" body lift, 3" OME lift. Brand new Tundra calipers.

The bad: The paint looks like shit on front bumper and all of the fenders and limited trim. (fixable!) The aftermarket wiring looks like it was tossed in, and then half torn out. (fixable!) And the headlights are half Zip tied in. (fixable?) 202k on the odometer.

If you get a new head light assembly would It work? Mine is broken on the runner too, just an excuse to do the retrofit haha.

The headlights are brand spankin' new. I believe it was just a poor installation without the correct hardware. I glanced at the assembly behind the lights and nothing looks bent or broken, I just think that the front end needs some attention to detail. All the more reason to find myself another tube bumper. :phone:
 
I'm positive you know way more than I do, but that 97 looks fun and with some TLC you'd have a nice jump start. I'd do it :)

This is true, and I may end up kicking myself in the ass over this because that is the first thing I noticed as well.

(The hood is currently unlatched, hence that separation.) The filler panels below the headlights are "resting" there with both outside mounts broken off.. The vehicles mounts are all in and unbent. I took a really good look at all the mounts, the radiator and lines, etc. to see whether or not it looked like it was ever in an accident. Everything is straight behind the plastic parts. My best guess is that someone did a REALLY shotty job and installing the new headlights and satoshi grill. Pair that with the fact that the last clean carfax report was 2 months/ 800 miles ago, and I, hopefully, can safely assume that it hasn't been in an accident since then. It'd either be loaded up with brand new parts, or there would be even more damage.
