So my front struts are toast and my rear shocks are hard as a rock, looking to get some 5100's. Looking on wheelers site and they have tundra 5100's and I guess some height adjustable ones for the 4runner for 173.00. I hope to keep my 99 springs and if the height adjustable ones they sell for the 4runner are good to go, why not? I don't need to adjust any time and if any I'd like an inch or so of lift. I just never was aware there was a height adjustable 5100 specifically for the 4runner.

I'm looking at the Bilstein PDF and I don't see a 5100 for the third generation (1995–2002). It's strange: 10-11, 03-09, 90-95, 86-89 are listed. I'm sure others who are more knowledgeable will chime in. Or, they'll tell you to do a search. That happens a lot around here. Good Luck.

There is not a 5100 made for the 3rd gens unfortunately. Most people run the Tacoma 5100's. You can also run the Tundra 5100's which are slightly firmer. The D558's in your link are designed for the Tacoma.

There are tundra and tacoma versions. The tacoma version is sold by Toytec I'm almost positive. I run the tundra ones and they're awesome. Either one is good though. 5100s are the bomb

I am using the TRD/5100 5-way combo up front and am very pleased so far with it.
I think I heard the 99s work as well, but you would simply use a height setting that would be
considered too tall for a TRD spring, correct?

Yeah, confusing since I clicked "4runner" then 96-02 and they show those as an option. Would the Tacoma ones bolt up without using the different bushings I hear need to be used with the tundras? I need to refresh all bushings too.

I'm running the tacoma 5100's on the middle setting with eibach coils and I like the ride overall. It's a bit stiff, but it seems like a decent setup.

Toytec sells the Tacoma 5100's. They come with the lower eye bolt bushings but you'll have to purchase the upper bushings from them seperately (20.00). The Taco 5100's have 3 settings 0.0, 1.75, 2.5 (I believe that's correct). They will bolt right on to a 96-02 Runner provided your top-hat is in good condition.
The Tundra 5100's have 4 settings. I believe the extra one is between 0.0 and 1.75. I'm pretty sure they're the same other than that.
I, too run the Taco 5100's (lowest setting) with the 3" Eibach springs. Gives me about 2.5 lift.
Stiffer than stock ride but I like it.
Not entirely sure about the 99 talls but I don't see why there would be a problem. Just keep a close eye on your CV boots if you start pumping that thing up in the air -

Anyone know if the Tacoma ones for 173 are valved differently than the tundras? Seems to me the tacos would be a little better riding since the tundras are for a larger vehicle??

I'm not sure on the valving between the two and I'm willing to bet Bilstein won't tell ya. I'll tell ya one thing I noticed. I swapped the wheels and tires from my '96 onto the stock '01 for our trip. Had to drive my '96 for a few days with stock wheels and tires on it upon our fateful return (it also looked kinda silly). It drove quite poopy with the Taco Billies and stock wheels. Swapped everything back last night and drove the '96 today and the suspension was perfect. I really don't believe the 5100 series are probably all that different as long as you have the other upgrades to go with them (other than the perch settings).
