Sorry officer, my truck decided to throw a P0500!

So on my way to work, I passed a state trooper. Naturally, I glance down at my speedo only to find out I was doing 0mph! After some intense critical thinking, I came to the conclusion that my speedo was not accurate (no, I didn't get pulled).

Also, my bluetooth OBDII reader wasn't working, so I turned the truck off, unplugged the scanner, turned truck back on, plugged scanner back in and it worked, thus revealing the P0500/VSS code. But! Right after that the speedo started working again.

Anyone have any idea what could have caused this brief failure?

I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens again. My truck often sits for 3 weeks because of my job and when I return to it, it does some wacky stuff for the first drive including throwing codes sometimes. After a good drive and I reset the codes everything is fine.

If it does come back, that code would indicate the sensor is at fault so either a bad sensor or maybe just a corroded connector or loose wire type of deal. No way to be forsure and I don't believe its a common issue.
