sound of water in the door...

It rained for the first time the other day and sitting in the passenger seat I heard the sound of water draining either in the door or the door jam. There doesn't seem to be any openings other than the crack between front and rear door. Has anyone experienced this?

if you look on the bottom edge of the doors, there should be 3-4 small drain holes. about every 6-12 months depending on conditions you should check these drain holes for blockage. i did notice on my older 94/98 runner they tended to close up with gunk that collecting from the interior of the door gears grease, etc.

this could be your problem of water slushing inside the doors due to slow drainage.

The holes were fine. This sounded like water coming down the side of the door almost like piping in the walls of a home.

been thinking about this for abit. only thing i can fathom is the roof is pooling the rain and then rolling in the rain gutter on the roof to the A pillars and this is your gushing sound you could be getting. i did notice this in my 98 runner since the roof rain gutter was a bit deeper than the new models.

also if you look at the B pillar between the front/rear seats, you can see rain steaks on the pillar if you open the front/rear doors. could be the door seals my need checking to ensure a good seal is being made between the doors and frame. also the seals are a bit low in the door frame and you could collect water above the door seal, and when it gets too much, it could be slushing to the B or C pillar.

another possibility is your moonroof seal is leaking and you are getting rain into the moonroof assembly area.

otherwise thats the only possibilities i could think of.

ive heard it too...im thinking its just the drain for the moonroof....my previous 4runner without a moonroof didnt have the sound... but my 02 with, does
