Sound system troubleshoot: replacement rear door speakers

I recently replaced the OEM head unit in my '97 SR5. I added a new Pioneer h/u, an external 1000W Pioneer amplifier, and replaced all the stock speakers.

Everything went peachy until I connected the new rear door speakers. I opted to upgrade the stock 4" rear door speakers to a JBL 5.25" set. Created custom brackets myself out of acrylic, wired them to the OEM harness.

My front speakers (6.5" JBL components) work great. But the rear door speakers no workie.

New amp is under driver's seat, I sent an insulated 9-wire speaker cable from the amp up to the dash, and connected it to the factory speaker wires at that location. And of course the h/u and amp are connected via RCA.

I just can't figure out why the new rears won't work. Anyone have any thoughts for me before I take my whole dashboard out again?

Not an audio expert by any means, but it's likely you mixed up the wires. They are different colors for different years, and don't always match what the amp/head unit say they should be. I'd double check the wiring.

I spliced in a plug and I remember matching up the wires for the head unit was completely wonky but I did get it to work. The colors on the head unit harness and the stock Toyota wires do not match up.

Did the factory wiring work before?

Since you got such nice other new stuff with significantly higher power output, I'd suggest replacing the speaker wiring with better stuff too.

One other suggestion, don't re-assemble until it's tested out ok. :cowboy:

Go into the head unit and make sure they are turned on. Happened on my Alpine unit, by default they were off.

Right. Yes. Okay. I'd hoped the original wiring would be okay. But I do have lots of new speaker wiring. I should probably just run new stuff.
