Source of front wheel bearings, not hub assemblies

Anyone know where to purchase the front wheel bearings for our rigs? I don't want to buy complete hub assemblies that I see everywhere, only want the actual bearings and seals. I found few of these on Ebay and looks to be my only option. For some reason I thought that I could buy just the bearings but it looks like they come as a "bearing assembly".

Thanks.

You are correct, the front "bearing" comes assembled inside the housing with four ears and it doesn't make sense to get them any other way. I thought there might be an option for bearings only for a significant lower price but that is not the case.

Seems like the rear bearings can be ordered as bearings only that you'd have to press in/out.

Rockauto.com is another good source for bearing assembly/hub/seals/whatever else you need.

Agreed, Rockauto has great prices and service. I ordered the front bearing and seals. Off to my dealership for the CV boot kit for $36 (inner+outer boots)!

Just a note of caution. If you haven't done the front bearing/hub replacement yet, be ready for a LONG day. I just did my right front a few weeks ago, and thinking to save a few bucks, I didn't get the inner wheel hub assy from NAPA, which was an additional $70 bucks. I have done front bearings on other vehicles before, and have a 20 ton press, so I thought 'how hard could it be'? Well, because of the design, you can't easily use the press to press out the old wheel hub to re-use it on the new bearing hub. With the tools I had, it took me about 3 hours to finally cut the old bearing/hub off of the wheel hub. And, a dealership had already done the front bearings for the previous owner about 4 years ago, so I thought it should be an easy job. WRONG. I did finally get it all together and working, but looking back, I should have spent the extra $70 and gotten a new when hub. I would have done the job in a third of the time, and with a lot less swearing. Also, if you have the time, check the rotor backing plate before you take it all apart, and if it is badly rusted, get a new one before you start, because you have to remove the old one while replacing the bearing hub assy, so it is a god time to replace it if necessary.

Excellent info, thanks for the writeup. This is the first time I'm doing something like this on this rig. However, I've done other wheel hub jobs on Subarus and own a complete Hubtamer tool kit. Even though I have a 20T press, I bet using the Hubtamer tool will be the ticket for separating the two items. This is good info to know before going in. I'll study this more.

I looked up the Hubtamer tool kit you mention, and it looks like it could do the trick. I used to work in a Honda shop, MANY years ago, and we had to use a slide hammer tool to remove front wheel bearings in order to replace the front rotors. It was a CHORE. There is a youtube video on replacing the front bearings on a 4th gen, Eric the car guy, and he tries to use a HF slide hammer, but it doesn't go well (he finally manages to break the tool) ;-)

I haven't been in the 'business' for many years, and haven't seen that Hubtamer tool before, but it looks like a worth while investment for one who intends to make a living at this stuff. Since the Toyota hub/bearings come assembled as a set, once you use that tool to pull the wheel hub, all you need to do is remove the inner bearing race and you are ready to press the wheel hub into the new bearing assy. Just don't forget the inner/outer seals.

Good luck with the job. And let us know how it works out.
