southern boy moving to denver...am I gonna be ok?

I've got the stock Dunlops. I take it those will be pretty useless up there?

I fly up this weekend, but I return back home for Mardi Gras in a couple weeks, and at that time, I will probably drive my truck up there.

The Dunlops are fine in the snow. I just replaced mine a few days ago, but it hasn't snowed since. The Dunlops were doing fine, they just needed to go due to wear. They might be useless over a mountain pass, but in the city (or any city for that matter), they are plenty adequate with your 4wd rig.

I sorta fell into the same situation that you are in. I am from New Orleans and joined the Army. My first station was Missouri and my inlaws live in Denver. The key thing for me was just driving careful. Normally people do not drive too fast in the snow, and in Denver, the few times I have been there, they keep the roads pretty clear. Just stay off of the mountains lol. Without 4 wheel drive you will be in for a ride you do not really want. Stay in the city. I'd say you will be ok with the tires that you have, and as for the salt, just don't let it stay on your vehicle too long.

I've lived in southern Denver for the last 8 years. When I first arrived, I was driving a 1990 Honda CRX with snow tires. The thing did awesome and there was rarely a day I wasn't able to get somewhere I needed to be.

The 4Runner is much bigger and heavier and while it took some getting used to, it does just as well. In the end, it really isn't the type of vehicle you drive, it's how you drive it. If this will be your first time on ice and snow, you'll learn to drive very slowly.

Your best defence is practice once you get there. Find a parking lot and slide around on some new snow. Climb a couple of hills and make it fun!

Just be careful. I moved to Denver back in the 85. I had a new Z28. V8. yea I did trade it for a Jeep after a year, but it was fine.

You can put studded tires on your Runner if you're really worried. My buddy uses them on his Integra and they work great. They have to come off in the Spring but otherwise, great grip.

If you go to the Mountains to Ski, have a set of chains. They have chain laws up there when the snow is bad.

Most of the time, when it snows in Denver the Sun comes out the next day and melting begins. It's rare for the roads to be packed with snow more than a day.

Don't forget the king cakes. Since I've moved up to Missouri I have them sent to me every year. Even the year I ws in Iraq, but it wasn't any good. Not to mention when I go to Rams' game, people are always telling "take off that Saints stuff, your in Rams country" lol.

Only if the Dunflops are ready to be changed. I've had mine on for 4 years now...just drove in the blizzard last night and they worked fine.

Wait till you get ur runner up here. I love it when it snows. My MPG goes down, mostly because I'm gunning it around corners and whatnot =D

Closet place to find sweet tea is in Kansas.
Closest place to find good grits are.. oh wait, no such thing as good grits.
I have no clue what you mean by a decent biscuit, but I've had some pretty good biscuits and gravy.
