Southern Style Offroad Full Length Roof Rack

I ordered a rack over six weeks ago on August 10th and the order seems to be stuck in the first step of "processing". I've called customer service multiple times and left voice messages which have not been returned. I'm not in a huge hurry to get the rack but we are getting close to the estimated 8-10 week delivery estimate and I want to make sure that there wasn't a problem with the order and that it is indeed being built. My credit card was charged upon placing the order so that gives me some comfort. Has anyone else who has ordered a rack recently also noted that their order status on the SSO website is not progressing?

What is your order number and I'll look up the status.

Well, there you have it. Operator error. Once I plugged the suborder number into the tracker it now shows it at material received. Thanks again.

Mine was still processing when it was at my front door. I don’t think that system is updated frequently. After finally getting everything it’s not a big deal but while you’re sitting there waiting with absolutely zero communication it’s really annoying.

I’ve posted in this thread and spoke to them on the phone about the issues. Not once was there an apology. All I hear were excuses why things happened. I think they make and design good products but after that I won’t be purchasing again.

What a world we live in where people demand to be precision updated on the manufacturing of a product on a business' assembly line.

SSO does own some responsibility for people's dissatisfaction by trying to provide the ability to track your order. They could save themselves some headaches by not trying to do it at all. A lot of responsibility falls on the customer for not being an adult in control of their emotions.

Sorry I don’t think they’re the end all be all of off road companies. Has little to do with controlling emotions.

God forbid someone doesn’t have the best experience and says something. Be sure to order all your stuff from them going forward and make sure everyone knows.

Satisfied Customer

I have ordered and received SSO’s Bumper, sliders, stage 2 high clearance and roof rack and have to say that I couldn’t be happier with the results.

Powder coating is top notch and weld quality appears on point.

I had no intention of having all my external mods being from one manufacturer but at each step of my build I seem to be drawn to the fit and finish of SSO products.

I highly recommend them as a strong choice in the industry and even happier they are USA based.

Hey Guys

We just opened up a group buy for multiple SSO products today, including roof racks. Check it out here: https://www.toyota-4runner.org/group-buys/278189-~official-southern-style-offroad-group-buy~.html#post3365401

For some reason, I couldn't just do a quick reply here. So since I couldn't, I figured I'd just reply to this message. I'm installing my roof rack today, which came in earlier than expected. Everything is looking great so far. I'll give you an update at the end of the day.

Anyone have any experience with installing a light bar other than what SSO has listed? Im looking at the the Extreme LED; Extreme Stealth 40" Single Row LED Light Bar. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. The mounting is from the side and bolts to the bar itself. The 40” Heise they sell is extremely bright and drowns out the cheap amazon bar I have behind the grill. I couldn’t imagine needing more light than that.

Unless you got an amazing deal on the extreme light I’d pay the roughly $100 more and get the Heise

I figured I'd post just a few notes to help anyone else that installs this rack.

1) Have the instructions on hand but watch the Wanderlost Overland video on youtube before and during your install. They do a better job of explaining the install. So, thanks to them for their video; it helped me a bunch.
2) You need 3 additional bars if you want to fill all the voids. One of which needs to be the the narrower extrusion (2 holes) for the area near the antennae.
3) Minor detail but a disappointment to me, the SSO logos on the rack are no longer silver (as seen in earlier pictures and the directions), it is now powder coated black. I liked the silver logo and it would have enhanced the look I
was going for.
4) For some reason, they give you two different length 3/8" button head bolts for installing the side rails onto the mounting brackets. There's no explanation in the directions. I put the longer bolts to the inside...
5) The directions say that they include 1/4-20 carriage bolts for attaching items to the roof. I didn't receive any of these (so I'll be contacting SSO) but I did receive 8 of the nuts that slide into the rail (maybe they changed it).
6) If you get the light cutout, there are 2 additional brackets included that aren't included in the directions. I'm mentioning this since, it took a couple of seconds for me to realize what they were and a couple of minutes of looking
thru the directions again to see if I overlooked them.
7) My install took about 3 hours with some help from a 13 year old.

I tried uploading some pictures of the bolts and the logo but didn't have any luck. Check my album if you're interested.

How many 3" and 2" crossbars to fill the rack and clear the rear antenna/fin?

The SSO site states that 8 crossbars come with the rack.

1) Do you get seven 3" bars and one 2" bar to go next to the rear antenna/fin?
2) For the guys that had issues with the crossbars hitting the antenna/fin, do you recommend putting a 2" bar in front and behind the fin, thus requiring eight 3" bars and two 2" bars to fill all of the available slots?

Thanks.

Mine is over a year old now, but it came with (2) 2" bars.

I did 2" crossbar for both behind and in front of the antenna. The 3" would've made contact with the antenna.

We're happy our video helped you with your install!

Mine came about a month ago with only the one 2" bar plus the seven 3" bars. For my 2016 TEP, I needed an additional 2" since the 3" wouldn't fit in front or behind the antennae/fin as well as the two extra 3" bars.
