Bumper arrived and finally installed..

Loving the fit and finish so far.. I've been on some high speed offroad and it held solid. Plus it looks badass!!


The fold-down camp table is a good idea that could use some improvement. I would move it further out on the swingarm (like the CBI one) for more practical use, and minimize tailgate body contact (which I've solved so far using protection film on the lower portion of the tailgate)

Make no mistake, this is a solid heavy bumper and with all the goodies on would need a rear coil upgrade. I'm currently on Wheeler's T12 (a.k.a. SAW 1.5") and they are just too soft to handle the load, constantly contacting the hydraulic bump-stops.. Sagged about 0.75" as well with the constant load.
Just pulled the trigger on ICON overland 3" coils and hoping others would chime in on final lift figures with these.

It is an awesome bumper. Had it on for about 3 months. Just beat the crap out of my truck in death valley. Bumper held up great on 54 miles of the crappiest washboard road to and from the Racetrack. I did break the upper hilift jack mount, but already have replacement from Kevin. SSO is amazing!

Both jerry cans were full of fuel and had no issues there.

I put in OME 2895E springs in back and upgraded front King coils from 550lb to 650lb springs. Front and back have no more sag. Definitely stiffer, but not an issue for other than the washboard, higher speed roads.

Do these not have locks on the pivots to hold them open? Also does anyone know if it's possible to get an extra 2" receiver on the passenger swing arm? I'm shopping rear bumpers but have to make it work with my bike rack. I'm currently thinking a Lawndart special CBI is the way to go but I really like how tucked the SSO bumper is and how it sits low in the rear window.

No lock to hold the swing arm open but there are gas struts to prevent it from closing. Contact SSO about the second receiver.

Yeah, talked with Gwen just now as well. From what I heard the backlog on them was growing beyond control, so they're temporarily stopping orders on them.
No idea when they'll resume, but from the sound of it, they're not discontinuing the bumper altogether (pfew).

I received my bumper a few weeks ago and slowly have been doing the install. Overall I'm very happy with this bumper it's very well built. There were a few issues along the way but Kevin took care of everything very quickly. He even added the Antman cup holders to the filler plate for me. Great customer service from SSO.

One issue that I am having is the alignment and how far it should fit from the body. If I don't use the shims the bumper sits nice and tight to body. This leaves the side steps almost touching the body. I want to leave room for flex but not sure how much is needed. With the shims it leaves a large gap but it lowers the steps away from the body. I've tried a few different combos with the shims with mixed results. If you guys could take a picture with measurements around the lights and the body it would be greatly appreciated.

Quick question to all who relocated the stock camera to the spare tire carrier location:

what did you do to cover up the original camera opening? doesnt seem like a good idea to keep it open to the elements..

I used a piece of rubber. I cut it into a small squat and used hot glue to secure it. I did that way so if I wanted to go back to the way it was I could.

But after a couple of months I kinda wished I pulled the plastic housing the camera sat in and used that. Then maybe the lines would be in the correct location. I was gonna buy a replacement but Toyota sends the part as a whole with the camera and it's $400.
