Spacer recommendations?

I have a 3" lift on my 07 V6 4x4 and put on 285/70 R17 tires. The tires clear the front wheel wells and mud flaps--just barely (haven't taken it off road yet to see what happens), but they do hit the frame. I don't want to give up my wheels or tires, but am concerned about adding spacers. Does anyone out there have spacers that they are happy with for off-roading, and are there recommendations for high quality spacers?

My second question is whether anyone can describe to me where the steering stops are and whether they can be adjusted, since this is another way to correct the problem?

I run 1.5" spacers with no problems, but I probably wouldn't use that big a spacer on a DD.

Start with the steering stops. Jack the front end up and turn the wheel by hand. You'll see the stops, 1 on ea side, near the caliper. Loosen the lock nut and turn the stops out until they prevent the wheel from hitting the frame. Then do the other wheel.

It seems like alot of people use these spacers. Spidertrax hub-centric wheel spacers (WHS-007)

I don't recall who made them. When they are that thick they're really called adapters. They have holes to mate to the wheel studs and their own studs for the wheel to bolt to.

steering stops

I checked out the steering stops with some experienced friends and they seem to be welded in place and non-adjustable. Do you have experience with the 4th gen 4runners on this?

No, no experience w/4th gens, but they shouldn't be welded.
Are you sure you're looking at the right things?

Perhaps they weren't welded, but they were the point of contact that stopped the steering arm from turning the wheel any more and were identified by an experienced toyota mechanic (though no experience with 4th gen 4Runners) as the stops. There was no obvious way to adjust them. We concluded that wheel spacers were the only economical way of fixing the problem.
