Spare Tire Carry Location??

Never did, unless out on the trail.
How I did it was like this: When I ran oversized tires, I always owned AAA and had a patch kit/air compressor in truck.
I didn't like permanently taking up space in my truck and didn't own a cage on top. I never had any issue ever. The one time a hit a nail, I pull it out, did a permanent plug. Used my portable powered air compressor and went on my merry way.
Anything that would have required my full size spare back home, I had AAA for. I did, as a note, throw my spare in my truck when off road. I am aggressive in risk, not stupid.
Edit: Also. For many years, my mother (who worked in another country as a medical missionary.. Docter's Without Borders style organization) she always bought her go anywhere son AAA. When I graduated college and made my own money, I paid for it myself. It is the single most helpful membership I have ever owned. I have the 200 miles free towing package, and considering tow companies charge and arm and a leg, it pays itself after about 6 miles. Literally. In the decade I have had it, I have had to be towed maybe 3 times and I never had any issues.

I'm running 265/75/16s (stock size is 265/70 IIRC) and carrying a stock size spare in the stock location.
Only had to use the spare once, seemed fine.
OT but somewhat related: Am I the only one who kind of likes the utilitarian look of the steel spare wheel? I sometimes think I might want to swap all of my (scratched and chipped up) alloy wheels for a full set of steelies:

I don't usually carry a spare either, but I have AAA.
For Baja, I will usually stick it up on the roof rack, even though its bad for COG and aerodynamic drag.
The MV50 compressor from Pepboys and a full tire plug kit works good though.
Oh and I forgot, that was when I was running 35's on my last truck. My current truck I use a 265/75/16 spare, since it will fit underneath.

You are not alone! I like the steelies, but getting a set at utilitarian $$ seems to be a challenge. Whenever I've seen those spares for sale on CL, they want like $75 ea. Way too much for a steel wheel with a throw away 10+ year old 265/70-16 on it.
Oh look, here's an example and you don't even get the WHEEL

This is a forum correct? Well, there has to be at least 4 of us that Don't want/like our spares so it may be a possibility to either sell cheap or give away right :naughty: ?

Well IMO I would never go out and about with out a spare. I have been thinking about getting a patch kit to have on hand, but still a spare tire is just plain good insurance. I currently carry a 255 (stocker on steelie) but have been wondering if I do get a flat on the trail would I even want to run it alongside my 275's??
Trust me I take all the procautions I can with tires; but flats are going to happen. And when you are on a 4wd road AAA is going to have a hard time getting to you.
So if you carry a plus sized matching spare do you carry them inside the truck or on top?
Anyone use a stocker next to your plus size tires?

See, that's my thinking as well. If you run a set of stockers on your rig then your spare is perfect, but for those of you have go plus sizing, the best thing to do (IMHO) is to carry them in your basket(On top). Kind of elementary I know but sometimes it escapes the mind.

you can do what I did until I got my swing out. I just ratchet strapped mine to the roof.

I run 265/75/16's now (32"-ish), and still have a 225/75/15 (28", i think?)as a spare. Different sized tire, different sized wheel, but it'll get me home if I need it to. Better than no spare in my opinion.

man i have a full set of the steelies, i got them from various other guys who didnt want their factory spare, and another guy who i traded him for at matching alloy so he would have a matching spare. i was thinking about running a set of GoodYear MTRs on them and only use them for wheeling but we will see...
as far as over sized spare goes, i just toss mine in the back and roll like that.

I have had two flat tires before on my blazer and it was nice I left the stock spare underneath, along with my full size spare. if possible put the stock size on the rear or else you're steering will be all screwed up from it being a smaller size
