I'm also very curious about this mount. I currently have the stock size spare underneath, partially deflated and compressed with ratchet straps to fit it with my aftermarket bumper. Its embarrassing haha. I even have a spare 285 on lx450 wheel, just nowhere to store it properly.

Has anyone ever made a tire skid plate for the stock spare location? Seems like it wouldn't be that hard to make a circular skid that would go under the tire and be held in place by the stock hand-crank cable winch. Just cut a round piece of sheet to the diameter of the spare, weld a short lip around the edge, then cut a hole in the middle to the same dimensions as the hub hole on the rim. Voila!
I'd buy one if such a thing existed. I hate the look and complication of a rear mounted spare and I want to keep my 1up two-bike hitch bike rack as close to the truck as possible to preserve departure angle as best I can. anyone else in the same boat?

Has anyone personally seen a spare tire's sidewall cut? I feel like you'd have to be on some pretty jagged rocks to do that.
I built my bumper around my 33" spare, and have little desire to put it anywhere else. However, I have indeed thought about building a circular skid to protect the sidewall, perhaps out of .10 to .125" sheet. It honestly wouldnt take much--I bet even an aluminum sheet of the above thickness would be plenty to keep the sidewall safe.
