Spare tire lowering tool

Could someone please measure their spare tire lowering rod/tool so I can know what size square tubing o buy so I can lower my spare? I just bought a 2005 SR5 and it didn't come with a jack, lug wrench, or the extension bar that lowers the spare tire.

Anyone know of an inexpensive hitch mount tire carrier that at least pivots out of the way for accessing the trunk?

It's a standard socket extension size. Probably 3/8 inch, no that may be too big, 1/4 ?

I assume you have already looked in the compartment in the left side of your trunk. It should be in there. It comes in three pieces that you assemble.

Get a long 3/8 extension, that'll lower it.

It is most likely a 10mm square post, since I have used a 3/8 extension (in reverse) to lower mine in the past. One thing I do remember, when I did it, is the head of the 3/8 extension may not fit through the hole in the rear cover without opening it up a bit. The outside dimension of the socket head on the standard Toyota crank tool is not as wide as most extension heads are. Also, since a 3/8 sae socket is slightly larger that the 10mm one, if the square head on the crank for the spare lift has rusted too much, the 3/8 socket may be too big and slip if there is too much resistance in the crank mechanism.
