Spare tire/wheel question for those with aftermarket wheels...

When i bought my BBS wheels a few weeks ago i was lucky to be able to find a single on ebay. I was going to go ahead and put it under my truck today, to replace the stock spare, this is where i have an issue. The hole in the center of the BBS wheel is a lot smaller than the stock wheel. The hanger part of the spare tire holder is too big to go through the BBS wheel, so i was curious if anybody else has run into this and what you did. I am not too worried about it since I will eventually have a rear tire carrier, but just wanted to see what my current options are. thanks in advance.

Nope, doesn't bother me a bit. Like I said I will eventually have a rear tires carrier fabricated so i will be able to use the full size spare and matching wheel then.....:hatsoff:
 
If you can't get the hanger through the center bore of the wheel, are you sure you got the right wheel? I would make sure it fits. Toyota hubs are about as big as you can find in a 6 x 5.5. The hanger is sized to fit through the hole. A smaller hole sounds like it may not be 106mm which is what you need. There are other truck out there that use a 6 x 5.5, but their hubs are smaller. I think the chevy center bore is 3" which is about an inch smaller than the toyota center bore. You are mounting the wheel face up, right?

lol....yes these are the correct wheels. They are the same wheels that were options on the Tacoma, Tundra and Sequoia. These wheel are offered through Toyota, so i doubt they would be selling something that wasn't meant for our trucks.....lol. It isn't a matter if they are the correct wheel for the truck. It isn't even that big of a deal they don't fit the spare carrier. I just wanted to see if anybody else had run into this issue with any other wheels?
 
Did you try flippling the wheel over? Maybe you can fab up a smaller metal bar to go through the center of the wheel?
 
It wouldn't make a difference on the direction of the wheel. If i do put this one under there it will be face up so the face of the wheel wouldn't get any rock chips. When i have some time I am going to look at the hanger a little more to see if I might be able to modify it, without weakening it.
 
Didn't you say this was a spare that you bought separately? That would make me want to test fit it. Something does not make sense. Toyota doesn't install parts that don't work with existing parts. The port installed wheels have to be the same as the stock wheels. It isn't like they pull the cable and install a new bracket for a spare.
 
I said it was an extra wheel i was going to use as a spare. These weren't just a port installed upgrade wheel. They were available country wide. I had the port installed upgraded wheels on my truck when i bought it, but it was only the four wheels. The spare is still the 17" 6 spoke wheel. Like i said, it isn't a big deal since I will be having a rear carrier fabricated....:bravo:
 
Those wheels in your picture were not factory wheels, and are not found ousided the Southeast. The Southeast region is the only region that has port installed options because they are the only distributor not owned by Toyota. Even still port installed options still have to meet factory specs.
 
Good lord.....I never said these were factory wheels. They were and still are available through Toyota. What else do you want? Sorry this topic bothers you so bad.....:nerd:

I read it the first time you posted it....Good lord.....I never said these were factory wheels. They were and still are available through Toyota. What else do you want? Sorry this topic bothers you so bad.....:nerd::nerd:
 
He did say "BBS" from the get go. Im getting in the same boat. I can't afford a rear bumper for a good bit so Im thinking of just tossing mine up on my basket. I dont plan on using a spare a ton so dragging it down one time wont kill me (turns to desk and knocks on wood).

Until i lowered my spare this past weekend, it hadn't seen the light of day.....lol....and i bought my truck in the fall of '02. I have checked the pressure in it several times, but never actually lowered it. Kind of like a time capsule. I really don't anticipate needing to use my spare, but have always thought the 4th gens looked great with a rear tire carrier. After several months of searching for a matching wheel to my old Enkei wheels, i couldn't pass up on these wheels.
 
i think sungod lives to disagree, rims look great. i had the same issue when i got my wheels i just straped the spare to the factory roof rack. nor me or the rack seemed to mined at all lol. I run my stock spare plus my full size spare when offroading (i've had alot of bad luck with tires). however I've been harping on the idea of relocating my gas tank to the spare area, have one custom fab'd up and get rid of the beer belly hanging from under the driver side area of the truck lol. Only thought that keeps me from doing it is the thought of someone rear ending me and then.. :toilet: lol
