Spare tire

I've been searching through old posts trying to find more info on the spare tire on the LE. I'm buying Nitto Terra Grapplers AT in 275/55/20. I'm worried the larger treads will mean the tire won't fit under there. Has anyone fit a tire this size in the spare slot? When I look under the truck it doesn't seem like there is any space with the stock tire.

But, you might want to get up there and measure like some of the dudes mentioned in those threads.

You're getting new wheels for those tires right? It has been hotly debated on here, but, the OEM 20 inch wheels are not wide enough for most tires.. I've got Nitto's too, and they are pretty beefy so maybe they are a little bigger than the chart below.

Yeah, the website says the approved rim width for that tire is 7.5 inches. Good luck bro

Did you not go the spare tire route? I'm just worried about a flat tire and not being near home for a tow truck or if it happened while on a road trip.

I have not bought a spare tire yet. I've still got my factory spare under there. I kinda figured that if i got a flat, that it would be like rolling on a tiny spare tire, so it should still be okay. That being said, i'm planning on looking to try and buy a used spare Nitto for cheap. In fact, i think i remember seeing an ad for cheap nittos out in manassas on craigslist.

Gotcha. I'm not mechanically inclined whatsoever but from what I've read it has something to do with burning up the differential because its trying to put power to a tire that is spinning at different speeds. I think I"m just gonna get the spare 5th and see if it fits. If not i'll store it in the garage.

Sr5 owners do not need to worry about matching spares, unless they plan on running in 4wd on pavement. Us Limited guys have to deal with the AWD system.

Could always put the smaller spare on the front axle and move a 275 to the rear if you get a flat out back. Might make steering a little interesting, but in 2wd at least you wouldn't have to worry about drive line components

I have 20" XD Addicts and also needed a spare wheel/tire so ended up ordering a 5th wheel/tire.....tire is 285/50/20.....

EDIT---If anyone needs a 20" Limited spare in the LA area, let me know and its yours for free.....

According to this tire calculator Custom rims, wheel tire packages for your ride - RIMSnTIRES.com stock wheel/tires are 31.6" diameter. 275/55/20 is 31.9 diameter. You should be fine with your stock spare with the new set up. Now if you were going to run 285/70/17 this would be a different story for limited owners only.

I run Baja ATZ's in 285/70/R17, with one as a spare and it fits back in the spare well no problem. It sits a bit lower due to being a 285 as opposed to a 265, but I'm also lifted 2.5-3" in the rear so it's really not an issue.

I just put 275/55/20 Michelin LTX MS2s on my 2013 Limited including the spare. The spare fit up just fine. The tire does hang down a bit lower due to it's width, probably a 1/2" below the hitch.

I agree that the issue is probably not the differentials but your traction control, ABS and especially Stability Control do look at expected values for both speed and turning ratio. A small difference might be ignored but if you get up above 5% difference I'd be surprised if ESP doesn't get really mad. It knows what speed your wheels should be turning at every angle and speed and is supposed to kick in when they don't match. Of course if you just hold down the button you can disable it. It would just suck if you forgot and the car decided to compensate at highway speeds.
