Spare Wheel Mismatch

I recently bought 4 new tires and wanted to rotate out the original spare tire, which would be 15 years old.

However, the spare wheel does not match the other 4 wheels. I recognize it as a 4Runner wheel seen on other trim levels. But I was disappointed that it would not match the other wheels, so I had to pay to transfer one of my old tires onto the spare wheel (had to get rid of that 15 year old tire).

Anyway, is this normal? Do you have a mismatched spare wheel? Mine is a 2004 Limited.

No it’s not normal , they should all be the same.

I got the OEM 18" matching spare wheel for my 06 Limited.

I went to 17s and didn't care to have a matching spare.
I am using a (skinny) 255/75-17 as my spare, in lieu of a 285/70-17.

so your truck has limited wheels but a different spare? maybe the original spare was stolen and this was the replacement? is it at least the same size?

Went Skinny

I got a great deal on a new set of Skinny Tires as well. 255/75/17 but kept the new 11 year old stock spare (265/65/17) All my wheels are stock. Probably your previous owners bought a set of Rims/wheels(4) and kept the spare as stock. I'll rarely use my spare so I didn't see a need in buy a new tire to replace a new spare tire.

Thanks, I can see the wheels in your signature photo. So this is an "upgrade" to 5th gen wheels. I wonder how the weights compare between the 4th and 5th gen wheels.
