Spark Knock Detection (knocklink?)

Just threw a P0325 tonight and am going to splice the two wires for the mean time, but was wondering if anyone has ever used Knocklink g4 or anything like it? I ran across it a few months ago, and I would think it would really help with tuning, especially hearing knock over the supercharger whine and exhaust is a little difficult as it is.

If I can splice the wires to pacify the ECU and install one of these with a sensor I would think that would be a win/win.

If any one has used something like this, where did you mount the sensor?

Also, when I got this code and confirmed it wasn't from messing with the fuel map and not a fluke I started researching it. Seems it's REALLY common especially on boosted motors, yet I never saw anything about it in all the supercharger threads I read, including the main 3.4 supercharger thread. Shouldn't this be added to that as a recommendation? If I knew the knock sensors and wiring were prone especially with a boosted motor, it would have been stupid not to replace them when installing it...cheap insurance rather than having to take the whole damn supercharger off again to replace a sensor/harness! :ohwell:

I'm overwhelmed with responses

Used a scotch lock to spice the two crank sensor wires together last night. Truck drives like normal now. Maybe I'll find the motivation to pull the supercharger off to replace them...that's a big maybe though.

NO opinions on Knocklink or other suggestions for spark knock detection? Can't hardly hear anything over the supercharger and exhaust note

Ive been tuning 4 banger mitsus for a long time and we always used datalogging devices to watch knock. Never once did we try to tune by ear, its almost impossible to hear all the knock especially at WOT. I do know some guys would install knock devices so they could actually manually listen but I thought they tapped into stock knock sensor or installed in the oem location.

I ran e85 and always ran into phantom knock issues so I disabled it entirely. With a good tune I would never get real knock with e85 and trusted it so much I didnt care about knock. I would tune to a safe AFR and then just keep adding timing till MBT.

In your situation if your throwing the knock code is a bad cable or connection. Not the actual sensor so its a tough one if its not just a loose connector. You could always try a junkyard knock sensor because replacements suck unless OEM. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. The computer is happy now since I tapped the wires to where the ecu is looking at the passenger side for both signals now. Most likely it is wiring, just not in a hurry to pull off the supercharger right now if I don't need to.

What data logging equipment were you looking for. I know the stock setup doesn't look for knock unless over 3k under closed loop...would they still report knock if tapped through another device (ie knocklink) or are you referring to something else? I know torque will drop off before audible knock, I'd love to get it dynotuned to actually see this...just don't have the extra $400 right now, and want to get it safe and knock free even if I don't have the maximum power output until I can afford water meth and dyno time. Think it would be a waste to tune it like this, then have to retune with the water meth added.

thanks

Steve
