Spark plug question for 2000 2.7L

Ive searched and searched to no avail. I have learned that the 3rd gens run best will dual ground NGK plugs but thats been for the v6. Is this also true for the 4 cyl?

I replaced the plugs a couple thousand miles ago with single ground and im only getting about 15mpg at best and starting to get a rough idle. Any ideas?

I looked around, too. The single electrode spark plug is sufficient, and I am not sure you will gain anything from extra electrodes.

I just run NGK plugs and wires. You sure the rough idle is due to spark plugs? Try out a different set if you think so.

Well I have the coil packs so all i did was replace the cheap Autolites with NGK, cleaned the Throttle body and the MAF. Didn't notice much of a difference. Gonna run some injector cleaner next and try things one at a time i guess...

For sure. I'd suggest a Seafoam treatment and a good oil and filter.

I made a little guide here to show how to seafoam a 3RZ 2.7 liter effectively.

There was a hole debacle on the 5VZ engines with "how to correctly seafoam."

3RZ 2.7l OWNERS:


DO HALF OF THE TREATMENT USING THE BRAKE BOOSTER LINE ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. Then, if you look on the other side of the intake manifold, you'll see another vacuum line on the opposite side. Use this to finish off the last two cylinders.


Works well and thoroughly for me, and I don't give a damn if you say otherwise.

I wanna try the sea foam but my dad and his mechanic buddy have been telling me otherwise thinking its too harsh on the whole system and making me think twice. I do appreciate you posting the write up for it though. Youre awesome, and so is your rig

I understand your concern about the harshness of the additive. Seafoam's website does say otherwise, though. Seafoam is not a harsh chemical and can be used frequently. It is safe for plugs, seals, oil, catalytic converter, sensors, what have you.

BG44k is something you'd consider harsh. It's recommended for very spaced out intervals, like once every 15k miles at the earliest.

Has anyone tried the dual ground NGK plugs in there 3rz before?

Not me. I just use OEM from the dealer. They are cheap for this engine.

I just use the NKG cooper plugs and they work great.
