SPC UCAs

Anyone running these?

I did a search and didn’t find anything...I installed them today. I replaced the tuff country UCAs because it was binding on the coil at droop.
First impression is very satisfying, the full adjustability of caster and camber is fricking awesome. The bushing are a non serviceable (after install) “spec ride” at the mount and an 40* angle max for the ball joint. The entire front end just feels tightened up and it’s tracks better. One thing I noticed when the tuff country UCAs came out, the sleeves just fell out of the bushings and there was actual play between the bushing and sleeve. I was able to set the adjustments on the Lca cam bolt to 0 and made a 3* adjustment on the UCA, no rubbing and set the camber to -1* . Feels great

There are many people running these, myself included. SPC has made at least three changes to the bushing design over the years and the latest, which you have, appear to have resolved the early problems.

I've had them since early 2012 and have gone through all of the bushing issues including the dreaded catastrophic failure, but all is well with the latest design. I carry a spare ball joint in my recovery box. As your photo shows, the latest design has a grease fitting for the ball joint.

There has been much written about the superiority of uniballs, but I'll stick with what works. 70K miles and the ball joints are as tight as new.

Yes sir! I get the 40* with these ball joints each way. When The extended coilover is all the way out the joint on these still have travel in its seat. There no reason to run Uni-Ball IMO. Like you I will be having a spare set of ball joints in the bag

Are these the same Adjustable UCA's that are offered as an option on the Boss Performance Lift Kit offered by Toyotech?

I am looking into that kit and am trying to decide between these or the total Chaos UCA's that are offered as well.

Yes, these are the same UCAs. I got the same kit and have about 10k on it so far and rights great. Can't go wrong with Total Chaos either.

Glad to hear you like the kit. Did you get the HD coils or the superflex coils for the rear? I think that is the last thing I am trying to decide on. I am going to be adding skids, rock sliders, a custom drawer system in the cargo area that I am going to build and a gobi rack. Wondering if that will be too much weight for the superflex coils or enough weight for the HD coils.

To my knowledge there is no other other adjustable UCAs.

My buddy is running the toytec boss coils and bought the SPC UCAs. He love em and his crazy ass is running 35’s LoL. thing is a tank though since he’s passed the spring loading threashold by getting the additional 3/4” put of it. If you are good with a 285 you will be happy. However I have to plug the icons. Although more expensive they are worth it. The extended set which is the same price as the standard is approx 1/2” longer than standard. This means you don’t need as many turns to get that lift you want so, softer ride... in theory lol GET THE ICONS :hello:

You may consider a longer lifting spring and strut for the rear of you plan on loading it up semi permanently. Again pluggin icon, the 1-3” 2.0 rear strut and their 3” lifting spring will give that factory rake but when loaded will be leveled. I want to say it’s approx 650# to level the 3” rear springs with from 3.5” you can get out of the icon coil over. More money up front but. Don’t do what I did and waste money on alternate products that don’t provide the performance or capabilities as others.

I went with the regular springs since I don't have constant weight in the back but when I am loaded up for camping, I usually bring 2-4 mountain bikes so thats a good 60-120 pounds plus all the camping gear and food plus a passenger in the back so it totals out to be about 500-600 pound but I plan on adding a drawer system soon so I'm planning to go with some Dobinson springs to handle the load better and to prevent the reverse rake I get now when loaded up.
 
I just stared running them few weeks ago with King OEM setup at 2.5”. Only problem I have is with rubbing with 265/70/17. I need to adjust them to bring the wheels forward in the well, but not sure if I’ll need another alignment after.

Unfortunately bro, yeah, anytime you adjust the caster you’ll likely throw the camber and toe off.
 
I run the SPC's on my 4th gen and so far they've been great. I've got almost 100k on them and just had to replace the ball joints earlier this summer. I'd definitely buy again.

Don’t mean to be a dick but just wanted to clarify some mis-information here. The extended travel coilovers do not do anything besides provide a small amount of additional travel when paired with aftermarket UCA’s. They are the same length, have the same springs, and provide the same amount of lift as the standard travel coilovers. Your buddy may be running the 14” 700lb coils, which would lessen preload since they are longer and heavier coils.

You are not being dick at all bud, however two weeks ago when I was deciding on the coil over I wanted I saw both standard and extended side by side, same setting on threads, same springs etc, the ext coilover was approx 1/2” longer. I don’t know if there was anything different at all except the length. If you have insight into icons stuff that says that’s dead wrong then that’s my bad. But no worries I’m all about discussing and not getting offended.

the only difference is an internal droop spacer is removed, allowing the extra bit of down travel. I can't comment on your observation of the extended travel shock being longer physically, other then that is odd

Agreed, I’ve been scouring the web and what you say as well as JBSTRD is correct. It’s that new $h!t lol.
 
Here is some info from the FJ Forum: Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum

They provide 7/8” of droop with aftermarket UCA’s. When the coilovers are out of the vehicle or on the vehicle with the wheel at full droop, they are at their extended length. Therefore, since the Extended lenth coilovers have the internal droop limiter removed, they are .5” longer. This provides the 7/8” additional droop travel.
