Speaker Options. Anyone tried 6.5" Components in the rear Door/Tailgate?

Of course a good 2-way speaker will serve just fine but a component system is always going to be just a tad better. My issue is I don't want an unwieldy tweeter just mounted to the panel and I'm not the biggest fan of permanent modifications like cutting up the plastic on multiple panels. Years ago back when I was heavily into car audio I or my friends would always have tweeters dangling here or there. Now days I'd prefer a factory look.

I'm still on the fence what to go with but I'm just sick of the sound of my factory non-JBL. I'm still tempted to take the easy route with the OEM Plus system but I'm very disappointed they chose to go with the sub on the drivers side. Enough that if I do decide to add a sub I already have located a rear trim panel that I can cut and will have the box built flush into the passenger side. I also think that for $1700 you could probably do a lot better.

I'm just curious if anyone has gone with components in the rear and if so where/how did you mount the tweeters?

I haven't replaced the rear passenger doors drivers as of yet; that day is coming. But I have swapped out the front doors and dash speakers with some high-end devices from Alpine Electronics and the difference is outstanding!! https://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/210591-alpine-1-dash-component-review.html

I'm also using Alpine "R-Series" subs so I don't use the tailgate drivers at all. I have the speaker wires 'Jumped' so the rear HU power amp is running at 4ohms instead of 8ohms for more output! I put Phoenix Gold 6.5 separates in all 4 doors and ditched the rear hatch speakers. The only visible mod is the tweeter in the rear door. I ended up hiding the sub in my rear cargo drawers. I think it worked out quite well.
