Speed Limiter

So this summer I will be going out to the desert; the land of fresh paved, straight, unpopulated roads. Bottom line is I plan to do some speed testing, and if I'm going to do this, I want to go all out. The only thing that would be holding me back is...the speed limiter. I tried searching, but find no results on how to disconnect (temporarily?) the speed limiter. Thanks in advance.

So your wanting to go faster than 110? That's moving pretty good in a 4R, I have had mine to 115 or so; with the lift and tires I have now. So I guess if your in a stock height truck you could probably get to what? 135?

Honestly, I have no clue how fast stock can go. Other than a few small mods, I don't have a lift or anything yet so I am wondering the same thing; thus, I plan to remove the speed limiter. Autobond- 115 with lift?!? That's really fast! :lookout:

Well the speedo said 110 (cause that's as far as it'll go stock), and my Garmin said 115; yea that's plenty fast for me (coming from the guy that got his license suspended for blowing by a state trooper at 150 racing a Camaro, in the Mustang)

I wouldnt recommend going too much faster than that especially for a distance because suv tires are not rated for that which could mean a blowout at 120 mph ( not cool). not saying I havent but be careful

Nah, I wouldn't either at all; it was more of a get it up high and then let go of the throttle kinda thing

The limiter is there because as stated your tires (if still stock) are not rated for more than 118mph. Speed limiters are there because items on you truck are not made to go that fast, an evasive manuver at that speed would be very, well, unfortunate.

Even with no one on the roads your truck is not set to hit those speeds unless you specificly set it up to do so. If your still looking to do it, I would talk to Gadget @ URD he'll probably be able to steer you in the direction you want to go. He's the expert.

Definitely get speed rated tires, H rated tires are very good and go around 130 MPH sustained. than the next step would be to get the APR X-1 as it can turn off the hateful speed limiter you will have to take it to a APR shop in order to do that as they have to see that your tires can handle it. I HATE IT THE SPEED LIMITER and that jerking sensation when you reach it!!!

With our higher CG, high speeds can result in disaster. Be very careful.
