hi.
i just installed the oemvalue nav to my JBL 4runner.

i did splice the speed and reverse wire and placed them on #3 5 as instruced (great instruction thread BTW).

My question is this?

How will i know if the wires are truly connected? what would the nav do if they werent connected??

also. is there any way to make the map turn relative to the car or does it always face north. (can the arrow representing the car stay pointing up and the map just rotate relative?)

thanks for everything you all have written...
there's no way in he** i would have finished this project w/o all your info.

You need to go into the diagnostics menu. There are two ways to get there:

1. Start your engine with your headlights in the 'off' position (most of us probably keep them in the 'auto' position). After hitting 'I agree' on the opening menu, push the hard 'INFO' button on the right. Then, click your headlights to the running light position (1 click), and then back to off, 3 times. The diagnostics menu will come up.

2. Alternatively, with the map showing you can push the hard 'Display' button on the bottom. This will create a border around the map with display controls in the border. Touch the upper left corner of the map section, and then the bottom left corner of the map. Do this three times, and the Diagnostics menu should come up.

From the Diagnostics menu can enter three different additional menus. One of these buttons says 'vehicle sensors' and will tell you the status of your wires. You might need to back up and pull forward a little to get a reading.

As for your second question, tap the 'N' symbol in the upper left corner of the map, and this will switch you to the 'heading up' display. The N will be replaced with a little compass arrow.
