Speeding Ticket

Well last night on my way home from houston, I was booking it doing about 105 the whole way. Got stopped by a sheriff for doing 101 in a 65. Gave me a citation, and said I should be in jail. He followed me to my house (got pulled over at my exit). Nevertheless, night went good to bad.

Questions: 1. Has anyone had a speeding ticket this severe before?
2. COULD defensive driving be possible?
3. Would it be smart to hire a lawyer? Im only 17 and insurance is going to shoot through the roof!

Absolutely hire a lawyer, you should be able to use your Prayer For Judgment Continued (PJC) and get it taken away or at least reduced.

Also, please slow down out there, I lost my best friend in high school to a car accident when he was speeding on the interstate and then my sister the same way a month later.

HA! Zero sympathy for you! I hope you do lose your license. That police officer was right you should be in jail. Being a firefighter with 4 years of service under my belt this hits close to home. I have pulled children, mom's dad's, brother's and sister's out of horrendous car accidents due to actions of people like you. Kind of dissapointing to see people on this forum that i consider to be "friends" due to common interests etc act like this.

Thirstyturtle, thank you so much. I definitely will, this is a lesson to be learned, and God's way of telling me to slow down before someone does get hurt. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry man. I do hope it turns out. Just kinda sucks to see people act like that because of what I have seen in my chosen career path. And yes we all have done our fair share of stupid stuff.
 
You should be in jail! 36mph over the limit? Really? What was so important that you had to put lives in danger? I know, you're probably an awesome driver capable of handling speeds twice that, but in reality, all it would take is a tire blow-out, an animal or something to come out into the road, etc.

A friend of mine was caught doing 21 over and after her court date, she ended up having to spend 48 hours in jail and losing her license for a year. She was about 15 years older than you are now when it happened and she had a child to care for.

Whatever happens, I just hope that you learn something from this!

Zstampe, I understand your drift, I know you must work with severe things, so your tolerance on your situation is very little. But this happened for the better. I can proudly say I've learned my lesson.

Doozi, yea the cop said if another guy pulled me over i'd be in jail. I just got lucky. Animals aren't much of a problem on I-10 from where I'm at, but the tire blow out is definitely true.
Im sorry to hear about your friend, she sure did get it hard. Good thing my town is really little, and we're good friends with the judge. Hopefully that can help a bit. And I surely did learn something from this....it's not even bad yet, Dads out of the country, when he comes home I'm DEAD MEAT!
 
We have all done stupid things and many of us have gotten away with them. When we hear about the terrible things that can happen we realize how lucky we are that mistakes we have made have not resulted in tragedy. It only takes one time to ruin our lives, or worse yet, of innocent other people.

Take it easy and enjoy the great truck that we all love.

I agree. Throw him in jail. Let him think about it there and pay his dues.
 
I drive at 85-110 frequently in my 4R and other toys. Speeding with 2 hands on the wheel and constant looking in your mirrors, ahead of you etc is FAR safer than the stupid *****es talking or texting on their cellphone.

I drive and that's it.

People eat, talk on their phone, drink hot coffee, text, read email, read the newspaper, do their makeup.

Besides - Its not the speeding that kills you - its the rapid deceleration that does.
 
I got pulled driving from Denver to Vegas... I was pulled about 50 miles outside of Vegas and the cop clocked my @ 113 (in an Acura) in a 65. He told me the same thing, "I could throw you in jail for this." He ended up writing me for a 90 in a 65 and I had to send in my payment because there was no way I was gonna go all the way back there to appear. It was a little under $300 about 10 years ago.
 
Why the hell would you be going that fast for such a long period of time. I could maybe understand going that fast for a very brief period of time, but damn.

I have a feeling this ticket is gonna cost you a good bit of money.

Have you told your parents yet?

Funny how the majority of them say they can throw you in jail and yet the majority of them don't. After all its easy cash for the state. I got nailed for doing 103mph in my old '93 S10 Blazer out by Fresnso on the I-5 (though truth be told I know I was doing more along 90-92), long story short cost me easily $1k+ on the ticket.

Did you just pay it or fight it?

In SC they can take your license for doing more than 20-25 over.
 
Couple of questions.

1- what city did u get pulled over in
2- what did your parents do when they found out


I was just wandering cause I got pulled over a couple months ago for going 22 over and got grounded for 5 months because I'm only 16. How did your parents take it. Mine weren't to made because they know stuff happens. Plus thank god I wasn't in my 4runner. I was in my smart

You say you learned ..hope you do ....what the problem is when you are speeding you have a much greater speed differential than the cars you are comming upon. Most people " expect" others to follow the same laws they have to , And are not usually looking out for someone moving much faster .. In fact most people either Glance in a mirror or kinda look when they change lanes and dont really take the time to evaluate traffic around them much..So to you the speeder they are a bunch of dummies in your way ...In reality it is not fair for you to put others in jepordy because you want to go faster than the Law says you can ....I used to Speed all over the place on my motorcycle until I realized I would get hurt or worse take someone else out for being stupid. all in all if you learned great ..If you are Just humble until the Ol man finds out ..Well !!!!
