Hello all. I have a 99 V6 SR5 2wd that I am having speedo problems with. The speedometer does not work at all. It was throwing 3 codes, 2 of which are unrelated, the third is a P0500 which shows speed sensor fault. I replaced the speed sensor on the tranny, and it did not fix it. Now, if it is throwing a code specifically for the speed sensor, why did this not fix it? If it helps, there is no abs on the truck anymore. I removed it. The techs at the dealership said this would have no effect on the speedometer. Anyone have any ideas I can try before replacing the cluster?

Has it worked since you pulled the ABS off?
The P0500 code has three things to check........it's a code for the entire circuit, not just the sensor itself.
-Speedometer cable
-Open or short in speed sensor circuit
-ECM
If you replace the cluster, you will more than likely be wasting your time and money.
Out of curiousity, what are the other two codes?
I'm about 99% percent sure the ABS and speed sensor are related on my 01'........do you have a vacuum booster behind your master cylinder?, as opposed to the abs/trac/hydraulic booster cluster f.
I talked to a toyota tech today that told me the abs and the speed sensor had nothing to do with each other. I am not sure about the brake booster, but I will check. Does anyone have a diagram on where the 2 wires from the sensor go? Do they do to the ecm or to the cluster, then maybe I can check them for continuity. I didnt think it had a speedo cable, since it has the speed sensor, maybe Im just dumb. Thanks in advance.
