Speedometer correction

Gentlemen, I have a 87 4runner with a 22RE, 5speed. I recently changed the gearing and tires. I went from the stock size tires to 31's and no surprise my speedo is not accurate. Does anyone know where to buy different gears for the T/C. Its the nylon gear that is part of the assembly that slides in to the T/C and connects to the speedo cable. The stock gear has 18 teeth.

Lake Elsinore, Ca. I am from Mission Viejo/RSM so the best recommendation i have for you is to try hitting up our pick-a-parts. Every time I have been there there have been several gen 2s or pickups (yet to see a 1st gen) there. I would try either reading the door codes and praying (mostly they are not correct) or rummaging for it and counting the gear teeth.

Edit: I am in the same boat as you; I have 31 tires(came with when i bought it) and my speedo is not correct as well even though my door code states my my runner had 4.56s in the tranny and (my spare is original with factory date stickers(metric on the tire measurement ??) tow package which locks stock on my truck when I had a rear bumper) from the factory/dealer

Im on 33's i feel your pain i just dont let other people drive my truck = i know how far off my speedo is 3.333... Mph off per 20mph i drive...

Officer theres no way i was doing 70 my speedo was pegged at exactly 60mph :)

I was in the same boat with my speedo off by about 15%. I have 33" tires and had 4.30 gears in my '86 4runner (automatic).
Switched to 4.88 gears with auto lockers and it was a near perfect pairing. I may be off about 2 mph at 70mph now.

I wish i had that option to change up to 4.88 to fix the problem 92 sr5 v6 auto is stock with 4.88 gears i would have to go up to 5.29 To get enough gear correction... 5.11 would be better but not available... And in my case i dont have enough gearing/power to even make the overdrive useful on the interstate so... V6 swap is next up

Funny, 35's and 4.88 gearing with the 5 speed manual is almost spot on @ 70mph! GPS shows me 70.3 on average when the speedo's right at 70.

Guess I'll pass this on, I was corrected a while back about parts being non-existent, thought of the link for this exact purpose!

Yeah strange how a 5 speed gear box is spot on with 35's and the 4 speed is not with 33's what is the manual 0.85:1 final and the auto is 0.71:1 how ever both share a drive gear od 1.0:1 (4/3)
