Spidertrax spacers and Discount Tire

Just got back from Discount Tire, previously bought my BFG AT's there...had to go in for a nail. They saw my spacers and flipped out, said they couldn't work on the truck with the spacers. Said they always see bad things from spacers including wheels flying off, vibration, etc.

Question: if installed correctly, is any of this true? I used the Locktite included... getting ready for a road trip and want to be sure. I've seen a bunch of you using them, so I went with them as well. The guy at Discount suggested I buy new rims to get the look I was after...

Ive got spidertrax on my 06. I bought my Duratracs at discount tire and nobody mentioned the spacers when I got my tires. Also when I went back for a rotation one of the techs commented on how good it made my truck look and then tightened all the bolts on my spacers like it was no big deal. I think they were just trying to sell you new rims. JMO

It's kind of hit or miss. Some shops will change/rotate tires with spacers on there and some won't.

I'm sure if they were installed incorrectly you could have a lot of problems including the ones listed. However I haven't seen any problems with ones that were installed right.

The sales guy is right though, you could always buy new rims with the correct offset, backspacing, ect... to get the look you're after.

I really wouldn't worry about it though. Just try to find another one that will work on your 4Runner.

Tell Discount tire that theyre wheel "adapters". Some places just wanna save their a$$ if something ever does happen. I have never heard of any incidents with wheel spacers.

Like others have said, it's hit or miss. I've been to 3 different Discount tires here and all of them had no issue working on mytruck with my spidertrax. The ones that wheel shops are worried about are the spacers that sandwich between the hub and wheels which decreases the amount of thread available to tighten the bolts.

To answer your question, if installed correctly you should be fine. I've made several long road trips over 3 years with spidertrax installed and haven't experienced any vibration or flying wheels.
