Splicing new XM antenna on?

Hey, while this is not directly 3rd gen or 4runner related for that matter, I am sure there are some electrical / audio experts here.


I have a XM antenna routed through my car already and my antenna has recently died and I don't get XM reception anymore. So instead of dealing with routing through a new antenna through my car I was wondering if I can just chop off the antenna part that is on the outside of the car and just splice in the new one I bought?

Would this work? That is if the problem is indeed the antenna part and not a short in the wire somewhere.

No...that antenna lead is miniature coax and cannot just be spliced together. You can splice it if you have the right connectors and tools. Better off just to replace the whole thing, even though it can be a pain to fish the coax through the car.
