Spoiler Install ?

I just received the spolierdepot spoiler and I am thinking about installing it myself but I had one question about the wiring for the light. Where did you guys tap into the third brake light? And does anybody have pics of that?

I have already done a search and could not find the specifics or pics of this connection.

Thanks

Yep! That's exactly what I did.........tapped into the third brake light. Instead of using splicer tabs, I sliced, stripped, twisted and liquid soldered the wires together. I installed my spoilerdepot spoiler in June 2004 and haven't had a problem yet. Good luck......the toughest part is physcologically overcoming having to drill holes in your nicely finished 4 Runnner's hatch. Once you get the first one drilled---------the other three are EASY. You will be proud of yourself when you are done.

Oh BTW, the third brake light just pops out of its holding area. Use a small screwdriver with masking tape and slowly pop out the light. I threaded the spoiler wiring through the hollow hatch door up to the brake lamp wiring. Also, my original third brake lamp is STILL OPERATIONAL. I did this in case the fiberglass spoiler accidently got ripped off or broken I'd still have the rear brake lamp usage while the holes are plugged.

Wish I had the balls to do this...

Rear hatch, upper left hand corner (driver side) is a 4"x 1 1/2" wiring cover you can pop out. you'll see the wires leading to the third brake light. tap into them there. Use scotch locks or solder them. your choice. Green-Yellow is the hot wire. White-Black is the ground side. PM me if you need to look at the wire diagram.

Take your time laying out the holes. This is the most important step. Once layed out, center punch the holes to prevent drill wander. Drill using slow speed. The install is not as bad as it seems.

Also, use some touch up paint to dress the holes. This is for corrosion prevention.

Good luck!

Had to bump this thread.

jlboers or anyone else that can help, it is definately the 2 wires that sepate out to? The Green/Yellow and the White/Black? I ask because the the instructions say it is a it is a black wire? I just want to make sure I am not cutting power to the window washer pump or soemthing/

I checked the shop manual wiring diagram and the Green-Yellow is the hot, white-Black is the ground going to the third brake light. So the previous post was correct.
