spoiler options

I am ordering a new 4 runner and am trying to finalize my options list. I see two options for the spoiler in my area. One just says reap spoiler and is $399 on the toyota site build page and the other says rear spoiler with high mounted stop light for $200. So other than the obvious that one has a light on it why would it accually cost more not to have it? I thought if anything the one with the light would cost more.

Can anyone comment on this or post a picture of the two. Maybe if i can get a couple members to post a picture i can see the two different ones.

Also i am in the South East so could i ask for a couple different zip codes from the other regions so i can see what the other options are since im ordering this 4 runner.

BTW i tried the search and didnt really see this topic come up. Most were about the spoilers in general and didnt specify if it was one or ther other or if there was a performance or look difference other than the light.

Thanks, Major

Actually, the $200 spoiler is the factory installed one that has the hump on the top and the brake light on the face of the spoiler. The aftermarket one is installed at the port after the 4Runner is shipped to the states. It also has a brake light, but is located underneath the spoiler and it does not have a hump. It's a little weird that the aftermarket one costs more.

If it were me, I'd take the factory one since the holes are drilled at the factory when the car is made instead of being installed at the port. However, I'm not a fan of the hump though.

....when driving....

i like it how the spoiler "hump" keeps the rear windows free of dust and blow the rain water down right away.

At first i wasnt going to get a spoiler at all then they kind of grew on me. I like the fact that it will somewhat help keep my rear window clean and give me a place to mount a backup camera. So the cheaper one with the hump is the "factory" one and is more effective. Correct? Do any of you who have one have the part code from the one with the hump. ( The number on the sticker on the car when you bought it if its not called that.) Too bad i cant get ahold of one of those parts books the dealers have with all the port and other addons.

Thanks for all the help so far,
Major

RF is the code for the factory spoiler with the hump that costs $200.

CX9 is the code for the port installed option (PIO) spoiler without the hump that costs $399.

I hope that's what you were looking for.

Spoiler is a must!!

Have you ever seen a 4R w/o one...my god, it looks like ass.

It was a $200 option on mine, which was included as a part of a package deal. Man, I would even pay a $1,000 hahaha.

It even keeps my rear glass dry when it's raining.

The factory spoiler is also installed at the port. They are not installed at production time in Japan. The port also installs the wheel locks, Sirius or XM radio, floor mats, owners manuals, etc.

icantsee: Can you verify that the $200 spoiler is the one with the extra part on it to pull down more air and not the flat one?

Thanks, Major

Spoiler with the code RF installed at the factory since the 2005 models have the hump, 2003-04 do not have the hump. The third brake light is on the vertical surface of spoiler for all Toyota factory installed spoilers. It is a $200 option on my '06.

Depending on your region, the factory spoiler, RF, may or may not be ordered by the distributor. If it's not ordered, then it might be a port installed option. If it's not installed at the factory it will not be listed on the window sticker that is printed with the VIN, standard and optional equipment along with EPA figures. There is usually at additional slip on adjacent to the window sticker with the MSRP transferred over plus whatever options added on the car then a "new" MSRP. You'll see this slip if the dealer puts on its own aftermarket wheels, leather or some sort of paint and/or underbody sealant.

As I said above, on all 4Runners no matter what spoiler is installed, they are installed at the port. The window sticker also gets printed and installed at the port. Any additional accessories installed at the port will be on the window sticker. If there is an additional window sticker on window, then the dealer placed it there after they installed any accesories.

I called the local "stealership" and was quoted $400 for a rear spoiler for my '05 T4R.

WTF????

Well i ordered a 4 runner but the dealer said evenb though i was special ordering it and i could build it on toyota dot come with my zip i still couldnt get the RF spoiler. If you live in the southeast like me that may be why you were quoted $400 because thats what the MSRP was for the CX90. Oh well now onto figuring out how im going to do the audio and nav on it. Thanks for the info everyone but unfortunatly i couldnt choose.
