So... The wife decided to close the garage door on the spoiler of the 4Runner and now it has some nice gouges in it! The body shop said since it comes painted it would be about the same to just replace it rather than taking the time to remove/refinish/replace it. So, has anyone removed and replaced one of these or seen it done? I want to make sure they aren't glued or anything before I try to rip it off and ruin the aluminum trunklid. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry to hear that . Have you tried other body shops ? Personally myself I would have it filled and touched up. Hard to tell without seeing where and what the damage is . I worry about replacing stuff like that if it has holes for fear of it not sealing and leaking onto headliner. just my irrational fears though....lol. Check to see how much a new one is first , I would think it wouldn't be cheap compared to a couple hundred dollar touch up. Oh and make sure it comes painted from the dealer , some of the body shops are like the sales people and service writers at Toyota and don't know chit.

Maybe you can remove the spoiler and and bring it to the bodyshop. If you will let them do everything then, it will take them time depending on their experience with 4runner spoilers plus the painting job and it will cost you more.tomhaney1 said:

I have the aftermarket one, It looks like the same as the orig. and the location of the holes are the same(I'm not sure) assuming that they are molding it from an OEM pattern. I'm not sure if they are glued but the one I bought comes with a 3M double sided tape. Actually, the bodyshop installed mine because I don't have experience in drilling thick metal sheets. There should be no problem in your case as you are only doing a replacement

What year is the Runner?
I am guessing you are a 3rd gen Runner and Borgzman seems to think you are a 4th gen.
The spoilers are very different so I want to be sure what vehicle we are talking about... aluminum spoilers were used on the 3rd gens and there is also an ABS plastic replacement.
Irbis Off Road has several for the 3rd gens. They installed mine on a vehicle that had never had one before.
While you are at it why not paint the spoiler to match....

No, I have a 2005. Thank you so much for that illustration. I am still confused about that clip situation though... I wonder if the new one would just clip into the old retainer? Also, the spoiler is 500ish and it is ABS and comes pre-painted like the cladding.

Partznet is 225.00 for that part number. Thanks tremendously for the part number! I was using the drill down menu to "spoiler assembly", which was giving me an outrageous price. Maybe that included the light, clips, bolts etc. I can handle 225.00 if it's bolt on/off and I can reuse the clips.
