Spoiler?

Does it really do anything? if so, then what? i dont have one and was wondering if its worth while to get it

I think it doesn't do much. its more for looks. Spoilers on SUVs are pretty much an extra weight. You have to be driving an aerodynamic car in high speed for spoilers to be effective. They generate down force on your tail so your car won't fish tail as it cuts through corners in high speed or when driving in straight line under higher speed.

I don't race my 4runner so I wouldn't know how much of extra stability the spoiler can add. I wouldn't spend my money on it. I would use that $$$ for HID kits, air intake, sound system upgrade, bulb replacement with xenon...etc

On dirt roads it angles the windflow down the back window to keep the dirt off the glass.

Other than that it just looks nice... especially custom painted....like mine is to match the body color.

hvaing the spoiler moves air that goes over the top of the car and its grabed by the wing and throws it against the glass to keep dirt off!

personaly i wish i had one, cuzmy glass is the 1st thing to get dirty water a car wash

Plus even a bit more downforce on the rearend is good at 75+mph speeds since a 4Runner is such a brick in the wind.

yes i know the purpose of spoiler ( i have a race car as well). i was just asking if it was functional or for asthetics


i suppose the same would be true for rain as well. i guess if i come across one in a junk yard ill pick it up. ive never looked at one up close. how is it held on

I think if your runner doesn't have it, you might have to drill it in place. Whats cool about it is that your third brake light is LED!!

yea that spoiler looks ok. but im not dropping that much for a spoiler. although it would look nice with my LED tails. ill try the junk yard for a cheap oem spoiler

x3 It really helps to keep the back window clean. Put rain-x on the back window with a spoiler and the rain, dirt and snow do not stick. The back of your truck without a spoiler creates a vacuum in the wind and actually blows more rain, dirt and snow up on to the window. Add a spoiler and it redirects the air directly down across the rear window and cleans it. My sequoia doesn't have one and it gets filthy and just as soaked as the front windshield in the rain. My 4runner does and it makes a huge difference.

anybody ever installed the OEM spoiler on a 4runner that didnt come with one? it looks like you would have to do some drilling

EGR used to make one for the 4Runner that was made of smoked plastic and hugged the whole back top part and really deflected air down the back nicely but I can't find it anywhere on-line.

I had one on my '97.
