What's with the spoiler on the 3rd gen...just for looks or serves a purpose?

I think it's like a wind deflector or something, here's a custom add-on JAOS spoiler:

It redirects air flowing over the roof to create a down draft on the back window. I added an aftermarket and noticed a huge reduction in the amount of dirt/dust/road grime/salt residue building up on the tail gate. So I would say it is functional for cleanliness but not performance. The aftermarket one above does not appear to redirect air though, it just looks cool

on dusty dry roads the spoiler works well to keep the dirt from accumulating at the bottom of the window on the rear hatch

You should add spinner hubcaps. I hear it's at least 5hp per hubcap.
