Sport Ed Roof Rack -- Bolt on to SR5 or Not? ... Aftermarket Clone?

I bought a pair of OEM black SE tube steps off a forum member and put them on my SR5. Now I would like to find a matching SE black roof rack and change out my SR5 roof rack.

I have read at least once here that the Sport Edition roof rack is NOT a bolt on to the existing mounting holes of an SR5. Yet I have noticed that some SR5 owners have purchased SE roof racks off forum members for their SR5's and haven't mentioned any mounting issues ... So does anyone know the truth --> Does the SE roof rack bolt on to the SR5's existing roof rack mounting holes or not?

Also, one member mentioned that there is an aftermarket Sport Edition roof rack look-alike available that bolts onto the SR5. Has anyone seen these, know anything about the quality, and/or have a source for them if they exist?

It's a direct bolt on. I swapped mine, it was the same as yours but silver.

You can get them pretty cheap on ebay, or I did. I think $200 shipped for the urban runner solid black tubular rack. they're also available on a lot of dealer sites like trdsparks or toyotapartszone.com

Thanks. So you're talking about the OEM racks, I presume?

How do you get those plastic trim pieces off the ends of the SR5 roof rack to get to the mounting bolts? Do you just pry gently underneath them to pop them off?

yes OEM racks.

you pry gently at each of the corners to pop loose 4 small catch/tabs. To remove the 5th one you pull up from the pointed end. (This is for each cover)

Honestly, I broke all 4 covers. I sold my rack and as far as I know she isn't having problems with the covers falling off despite a couple broken tabs. I told her to email to complain if one fell off but she hasn't yet (and they're pretty expensive so i think she would've).

edit: if you search here or toyota120.com there are instructions and a diagram or drawing or picture or something of how to remove them.

I replaced my SR5 rack with the SE rack. It bolts on no problem. I ended up cracking 3 out of 4 covers when taking the old rack off.

Now I just have to find an OEM black SE rack to purchase so I can go to work changing out the SR5 rack for it.

does this apply to limited as well?

I have an 08 Limited and I want to swap with the tubular sport edition style roof rack as well. I am assuming the mountlng bolts are in the same place, yes?
