Sport Edition Brake Upgrade

Alright, I can’t find anything out there for this. Closest thing I can find is this infamous Tundra Brake upgrade which doesn’t seem worth it since I already come stock with bigger calipers and rotors.

The truck ways soo much now and would love to know what I can do to help stop this ton of bricks.

Aren't the limited brakes larger? Maybe not the pads but the calipers on the front are o think.

Bigger brakes won't help you stop faster, that is only a function of your tread compound and abs system. If you slam on the brakes the tires would easily lock up if your abs system wasn't working. Therefore to 'stop faster' you need to change tread compound or reduce weight.

Brake fade can be slowed by aftermarket brake kits
Pedal firmness can be increased with SS brake lines
Initial brake grab can be increased with aftermarket pads

5th gen 4Runner brake rotors are a tad thicker than the 4th gen sport's, and the caliper's piston size is millimeters bigger as well. A lot of people have swapped over to the 5th gen stuff.

So if you had to help manage an additional 1000lbs of weight on your truck what would you do to the brakes? Already have stainless steel all around. Been seeing good things about EBC yellow stuff pads.

I'm basing my parts list off of CookieRoe's

Here is another list

Drilled and/or slotted rotors seem like an issue for offroaders with mud/dirt getting inside or so I've heard. The rotors can also crack easier so I think I'll just stick with the basic smooth rotors.

As for pads I think it's mostly a trade-off between initial bite and longevity/brake dust. You'll want to properly bed them in whichever ones you go with. That's about all I know, I'd like to see other's opinions on this as I'm close to throwing on all new brake parts as well.

In for answers on options for the 4th gen caliper replacements. Just got an 05 V8 sport and is pulling to the left under braking.

As far as EBC, I love their yellowstuff pads! I use them on my fun car all the time (albeit only weighs 3,500 lbs) They have great initial bite and hold heat really well

the ebc yellow pads will give out so much brake dust, i had these and within a week, i had a thick layer on my rims. although it stops the truck very nice. im using hawk lts pads with stoptech slotted rotors, also ss lines all around, plus im also using dot 4 fluid, so it helps. im pretty aggressive.

Since you're a member, I figure you're an enthusiast. There are lots of options, just like the "what's the best oil" question. My opinion is biased towards what I've used on my past cars (Stoptech, or their parent company Centric) and stuck to them .. but you should also factor your driving methods and geographical terrain. Unfortunately, research is your only friend when it comes to picking.

Otherwise a regular DD/Don't-give-a .... I would just point you to your brick and mortar auto parts store, grab which ever mid-tier rotor and pad, call it a day.

So since the 5th gen swap fits the fronts of the 4th gen - the Rotora BBK for the 5th gen should as well right?
