Sport edition conversion

Hey guys so when I was first purchasing my 4runner I was looking for a sport edition in great shape but they are a lot more expensive. I ended up scoring a 98 for 5k which was theft practically. Anyways when my dad back backed into my truck I thought what the heck I'll just convert it to a sport edition ( kinda) I was only going for the things on a sport edition that I liked like the fat lip bumper which I'm having painted this weekend. My question is where can I find one of those Tacoma skid plates that the '00 and '01's have? Also has anyone done this before? I would love to use them for reference.

I did it to mine and I used the Tacoma one. I think the Tacoma one is better because you can modify it to fit the contours of the fat lip bumper. Mine is a 98 that a put a +99 bumper on and the Tacoma skid. I can take pictures later of how I attached it.

when i picked mine up a few years ago the 4Runner version was available but was $400+ I think I paid like $130 for the Tacoma one. The 4Runner one doesn't sit as close to the bumper as I would like anyway so it all worked out good for me

You can see a few more pics of the underside, custom brackets, and the beefier version that I never did get finished here toyota-4runner-skid-plate |

Custom brackets aren't even needed. All I used were the orignal brackets, two long bolts, two nuts, and some washers. There was a hole already on the bottom of the crush support frame area on the truck. Idk what to call it. So I drilled a hole out the top and dropped the bolts through those holes an attached the brackets to that. I'll get some pictures later tonight because its hard to explain.

Oh man, I say you get over that skid plate. It does nothing, and will cost you more than you want to spend I am sure. Spend that money on something that will make your rig better!

here are some pictures. mine is a 98 with the +99 bumper just like yours so it should be the same.

My thoughts exactly. Get a snorkel.

eeww I hate snorkel they look so dumb (just my oppinion). I just want it to look like a 2002 the day it came out of the factory with a 2 inch lift. Im more of an aesthetic kind of guy who is more concerned with speakers than mud tires and lifts.

Get some wider flares and color match them, your bumpers and your grille. Obviously the other big one is the hood scoop. It would then match most sports pretty well. I would add the skid last as it was only on the '02's.
