Sport Edition vs Limited

AC doesn't get the cool aire between you and the seat but that's where air cooled seats are nice but they aren't very widespread yet.

Leather in most cases doesn't take abuse well from dirt and stuff that can stick to your pants when either working outdoors or off roading. Leather simply isn't that rugged for the off road crowd but I guess you could buy seatcovers for the off road trips.

Here are some good evidence why cloth seats and off-roading don't mix:

And these cloth seats on the FJ are supposedly made for off-roading since they are stitched and supported for abuse and are waterproof.

Therefore, i stand by my original statement...leather is better for off-roading.

. . Also, what are the typical difference between them (besides leather seats and a better stereo). Are there differences between the suspensions?

From my notes, condensed from past new auto reviews:

2006+ 4Runner Sport: vs. the sr5, the sport gets unique cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped tilt-telescope steering wheel with integrated cruise and audio controls, a leather-wrapped shift knob, power heated outside mirrors, X-REAS Sport Enhancement Suspension, bigger brake rotors, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Externally, the Sport Editions are distinguished by a hood scoop, smoked-chrome grille and headlight bezels, graphite-painted roof rails with black crossrails, and tubular side steps.

The Limited are upgraded with leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats with memory functions, black wood-grain interior trim, premium stereo with 6CD changer, HomeLink universal garage door opener, auto-dimming inside mirror, engine immobilizer, automatic headlamps, a cargo-handling system, 18-inch aluminum wheels, color keyed grill, and illuminated running boards. Limited V8 2WD and 4WD list the same standard equipment. Limited models ride on the standard suspension, but V8 4WD models can be ordered with a rear auto-leveling air suspension combined with the X-REAS suspension.

V6 4Runners have 2WD/4WD mode, V8 4Runners get full-time 4WD only.

The class 3 trailer hitch w/ 7 pin connector is now optional for V6, standard on V8s and Limited.

A third-row seat is available on SR5 and Limited models in a limited number of package combinations, but not for Sport.

Options available for all models include GPS navigation with a rearview video camera power moonroof, and a rear-seat DVD player with wireless headphones. Some Limited-level luxuries are offered as stand-alone options for SR5 and Sport Edition.

Safety features that come standard on all models include Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), traction control, anti-lock brakes (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. All models come with Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), while 4WD units add Downhill Assist Control (DAC).

Just a note of interest. I can't speak to purchasing the new '09, but when I bought my V6 2008 LTD XREAS came with it as part of a package.

If you plan to do any serious overland driving get the XREAS.....if you plan to get in trouble get the SE. Never seen a homelink pull a rider out of a ditch.

True...but i will never buy another car without homelink...it is such a useful thing to have in a car...no batteries to run out, no sunvisor full of remote controls. BTW, for my family, we use all three buttons on the homelink.

Need help identifying Sport or SR5

I recently bought a used 2007 4x4 4Runner. I'm trying to determine if I have the SR5 or Sport Edition package.

Just by looking, I don't see any of the SE upgrades: tubular roof rack, side steps, 6-spoke rims, scooped hood.

The problem is, every VIN decoder shows it listed as a Sport Edition. My VIN is: JTEBU14R070115053

I also haver been trying to locate my model number using the name badge in the door.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've seen a lot of places (Dealers, Autocheck) list SR5's as Sport Editions, even SR5 SPORT.

The dead give aways, other than the stuff you already listed, are the black cloth interior and XREAS suspension (if it already hasn't been removed/upgraded).

I believe the VIN will show the SR5 and Sport as being the same - based on your description of missing options, it would seem reasonable to conclude that you have the SR5.
