I'm not even expecting to find one in my color (gold/champagne), though that would certainly be great. I would just be happy to find an undamaged OEM one in any color with all hood parts intact at a fair price. Then I would have it painted to match my runner.

what IS a good price ? I've seen them on ebay for around $200 (plus the scoop)

Thanks for the link. Interesting thing about that hood, it shows it for the V8 model, and doesn't mention the V6 4runner. I would think the hoods would be the same, but don't know for sure ... Sorry, I couldn't tell you anything about competitive prices on aftermarket hoods, haven't studied it much.
As to the quality of the aftermarket hoods, they may be fine, but I just don't know. Personally, I am a little leary of them because the hood is obviously a very large moving part, so even if it seems to work fine at the start, if the aftermarket hood isn't as sturdy as the OEM hood, there could be potential for problems as time passes.
I'm going to try to find a used OEM hood, unless I hear a lot and I mean a lot of great feedback on one brand of aftermarket hood.
Does anyone know, does the same hood fit 2003 to 2009? Or was there a mnor change in there somewhere along the way that makes them slightly different?

I can't imagine there is a body style difference as far as hoods are concerned between V6s and V8s
Years ago, I had a 2WD truck and wanted rear wheel well liners to make it easier to clean, kinda clean up the appearance of my Dodge Ram, and the guy at the parts counter kept saying, they don't make them for 2WDs only 4WDs ... I showed him the mounting holes were already in there from the factory --- so I ordered them and whatdaya know - fits like a glove

I would trade for a shadow mica sport hood, because I will just get it painted to match my runner (gold). So I would trade with you, but I don't know if you want a gold one that you would have to have painted.
Mine is a 2009, so the hood is in perfect condition. Where do you live, MICA4R?

Craig's list, junkyards, etc etc. I did this and ended up with a crappy sport hood. Found it on autopart.com, I couldn't look at it (had to be shipped from NY state), so I had to pay for it. Anyway, when I went to pick it up, it wasn't a 0 defect item as it was stated on the site. PO had a bug guard and the edges on the leading edge of the hood had small chunks missing (bug guard hardware rubbing against the hood for years). Inside of the hood had rust and the paint was faded. Couldn't take it back, but I did get a discount on it. Anyway, NO BODY shop will accept a "shabby" hood and to work on it, will cost even more (if you find a shop in the first place). Instead of making a stink at the place I got the hood, I figure I'd cut my losses. I ended up getting an new OEM hood and my plan was to salvage some of the scoop parts on the old hood I got, but some of the screws hooding it in are rusted and rounded. Once again, I ended up ordering new parts (partznet). This all started when a chunk of ice/snow came crashing onto my hood. Insurance paid and all, I tried to save money, but that obviously didn't work. I'll more than likely list the hood here on the for sale page.
I'll post pics as this project moves ahead.
EDIT: the hood isn't MASSIVELY CRAPPY, but the rest of my 4R is great shape and I would feel stupid just bolting this thing on. MY ODC won't allow it, LOL.

Does anyone have a part number (or good description) of the piece that snaps in to the square hole on the underside (passenger side) of the hood and takes the windshield washer inlet tube and the outlet tube that travels to the nozzles?
It’s the only piece I broke swapping in a sport hood.

I’ve been wanting to do this hood swap since I bought my truck. I figure it’s a good option since I have a ton of rock chips in the stock one anyway. For those that bought the eBay repro ones, especially pre-painted, are you happy with the fit/finish?
