Sport Seat Fabric, keep it clean?

OK. I've now had my 04 sport for a week and 600 miles.

Can anyone tell me the best way to keep the Dark Charcoal "fuzzy" fabric clean? I'm not talking about the center seating area, but the dark outer edge. This material is like a magnet for any piece of lint or string I happen to have on my clothing.

My 93 had sport cloth seats and were far superior to this material.

I have the same problem, and I thinking of doing leather seats....I use a wet sponge to clean them...but this is a pain in the ass.

I also need help, and if anyone knows of a good leather shop in the Atlanta, Ga area please help....

I just vacuum it and it gets most of the stuff off it, but i know what you mean...every little piece of lint and whatnot sticks to those seats, i have not found the ideal cleaning method yet so I just stick with vacuuming it.

i vacuum and the use a lint brush on the dark charcoal sides and it seems to work really well...

I had this with my taupe cloth too. I would take a lint brush and roll it on those portions every few days and that would help a little. I've since replaced my seats with leather, so no problems now!

Is it high quality? Easy to install?

I see from your sig that you have the oem leather headrests, how come? didn't the kit come with headrests?

I open my doors and use compressed air to clean my seats. It works like magic. I'm talking about air from a 110v compressor, not air from a can or air from a 12v tire compressor. No garage should be without a good compressor.

Vaccum and a lint roller.

Besides that, Toyota applied a, er, "coating" to the seats (scotchgard?) that they ASSURED me would keep them clean forever and ever. And if I would just buy a $300 insurance policy, they would even clean or replace them if they EVER got the SLIGHTEST bit dirty. Don't know if that included lint. :awais:

I like the kit, the leather quality is very good and has quite a bit more texture than the leather in the Limited. It wasn't an easy install, I messed up some parts. Search for "ebay leather" and there'll be a few threads about them. I bought them when they were $375, but it looks like they raised the prices.

The kit came with the covers for the headrests, but I didn't like how they looked, the sides and bottom were made of vinyl instead of leather. I didn't really plan on replacing them, but I found a brand new pair on eBay for $60 and couldn't pass them up. They list for $479 each from the dealer.

600 miles in a week? It took me 3 weeks to reach 600 miles! Then I went on a trip from NY to Pittsburgh (to watch my Steelers beat the Bengals!), which was about 800 miles round trip. So now I'm at about 1400 miles on my new 4Runner. BTW, it's the same as yours, right down to the color.

Anyway, to answer your quesiton, I use one of those tape rollers (for pet hair) to clean the seats. I have a Dalmation and she sheds terribly. Dalmatians have short, pointy hairs that usually get woven into fabric and then are nearly impossible to remove. Luckily, the seat fabric in the 4Runner seems too tight for the hairs to penetrate. But to get rid of the lint, I use the pet hair roller anyway. It works great!

i use the same exact thing and it works great. i've even used packaging tape which has more tac and pics up more. before using the tape though, i vacuum the seats first…

I'm wayy late....but has anybody tried StaticGuard? It works VERY well on the seats in my 97. I spray it down once a week or so, and it smells god too!

Yesterday I discovered a new method for getting pet hair off of the seats. I put on a pair of those work gloves with the rubber dots all over them, and noticed that they really rolled up any hair sticking to the fabric. So now when I vacuum, I can just lightly rub the seat gathering all the hair and lint, then vacuum up the resulting blob.

Fast, and works like a charm.

you guys need to go to petco and get this special brush... its a weird fabric that picks up hair only when you push the brush in one direction. once one side is full, flip it, and push in the opposite direction.

I use some of the 2" box cellophane tape, wrap a couple of turns around your
fingers so the sticky side is out and all you have to do is pat the fabric and all
the lint, hair and whatever just sticks to the tape.

It is cheap and effective.

Try using just the palm of your hand flat against the seat, you should be able to gather up the hair and push it to the edge. Then you can vacum it all up. Wet your palm a bit, and though it sounds weird, a bit of sweat off your brow will really help.
