I've had locked vehicles broken into, brother in law had his unlocked vehicle broken into, people have their locked houses broken into. Security is nothing but a myth whether it be physical or cyber.

The government or IRS can look at me all day long...NOT my concern. It is the 3rd party that I worry about. I am sure that the NSA has a key hidden somewhere to see my data...I am OK with this.

But, am I ok with some hacker getting my info? No! And I do my best to protect against it. Thus, I stay away from services that provide no encryption on the "other end" (server side)...because IF that server is hacked, then everything about you is exposed for everyone to see and abuse.

You're correct on that last sentence...thus, I pick services that limit my exposure. That's my point.

Again, NSA knowing my credit card number (or any other sensitive info; e.g. SS#) is not a concern of mine...BUT some hacker in China or Nigeria knowing my social security number IS a concern of mine. And that hacker is what I try my best to prevent.

Nah. Ok with that. They ALREADY have my SS#, name, DOB.

That is absolutely not true. They are trying to stop that. It's illegal to collect rain water on you're own property in places. There are people with completely self sustaining off the grid homes that are being told they need to move out of their house because if it's not tied into the the local utility services which makes it legally an "uninhabitable" property. Privacy is a thing of the past. Hell even being homeless is a crime in many places.

I stand somewhat corrected. I looked up a few articles on people being prosecuted for going off the grid, something about the International Property Maintenance Code saying residents need to be hooked in to water and sewer for sanitation. I dont know much about these sites, just what came off a google search:

I can see people in densely populated suburban neighborhoods being targeted, but in my experience up here in the mountains, there are a lot of places where people do pretty much whatever they want, usually on old mining claims and whatnot.

I do know that capturing rain water is technically illegal, as you are removing water without any legal rights to do so. In CO, getting into water law is really messing with the big dogs, something about feeding the entire Southwest or some such.

What do you think that they do not have already? Data on your computer? Well, thanks to WIN10, they have that now too! Your communication via cell phone? Yup, that too if you use Android. Now, they can use the thingy to triangulate your signal to capture actual conversation, but that requires intensive intervention...and there is just not much that you can do about that. :israel:

But, this is why I like Apple services...end-to-end encryption on all their services that has NSA b!tching and moaning to Congress. So, slowly, my family is switching to Apple OS (Mac and iPhones).

Nope...no contraction. You mis-understood me. "THEY" in my previous post is "NSA and GOVERNMENT" that you're referring to prior (thus, I quoted your post)...thus, I responded to you thinking that you understood what I mean. I stand corrected.

Ok...once again...NSA and government, I am OK with since "they" ALREADY have all my info. The ONLY thing that they do NOT have easy access to is my computer data and my phone data. Being hooked into Apple services protect me from them getting easy access to these data. Apparently, Apple end-to-end encryption with the KEY being with consumer is quite strong...enough that police cannot get it...and NSA is complaining about it.

The BIGGER immediate threat to me and my family are the hackers (local or afar) that can damage me badly if they (aka hackers) get my info, such as SS# or my credit card info etc..

Again, you're not reading what I am writing. You miss my points. I thought that this is about Spotify?

But, yes, there are certain companies that are subpar to Apple in PRIVACY, not necessarily the other stuff. I am talking ONLY about privacy and security, not about function nor form. You will NEVER hear me say that Windows 10 (for example) has less features or has less software than Apple...because that is not true.

I am not sure why you fail to understand what I am writing...I could swear that I am writing in English.

Whether the government can hack Apple is irrelevant...of course, they can. But, can they break the end-to-end encryption where the KEY is with the consumer, not with Apple, is another question. Why do you think NSA has such a big complaint against Apple? NSA is coming to Congress to get them to pressure Apple.
