That is a pretty awesome idea actually. Bet he could make it way cheaper without using Baja lights, which are unnecessary really. I'd like to have a light out there while backing sometimes at night.

Rear, Amber dust light
I went the cheapo, temporary route and ordered this on Amazon:

It's a magnetic mount, rectangular, amber 18 LED light that runs on 4 AA batteries.
Granted it's going to be inconvenient to have to go back to it to turn it on or off but I think I can live through that.
Otherwise I think it would work for the dust light purpose until I figure out what to really do with a roof rack and mount something there.

What's up.. Longtime no talk. Sorry i had to disappear. Dad was diagnosed with PCNS Lymphoma brain cancer after my accident and I am his full time caregiver and taking full responsibility for him. He is responding well to the chemotherapy so far and I am hoping he will be in remission during the month of April. Put me down as tentatively in! I need to get away from all this stress and craziness. He is one of the toughest men I have ever known, a veteran, former US Army Sniper. Hoping he will beat this $hit.
Been talking to a buddy who wants to run full trips to New Hampshire and we are going to plan out some big trips out there for this summer. I will update www.overlandnyc.com when the information becomes available.

Congrats, that's awesome!!
I got the HAM setup sitting in my office, but haven't gotten enough study time in yet... Hopefully, can sit and pass next month. I've gone down a major rabbit hole on wiring up my dust lights that's kinda tied my time and efforts up :wow2: (see pics) I'm a little... :crazy:

As for the HAM test I kept taking the practice tests over and over

Looked up the nearest exam sight (Laurel, MD for me) they test once a month and it was free.
I barely passed and there were quite a few folks that got 100% on the test.
I tempered my pride by thinking; meh...it's still the same license no matter the grade lol!

Thanks! It's been fun, and frustrating at the same time... I keep telling myself this is going to pay dividends in the future, after this is done it should as simple as:

At least that's how I hope that's how it plays out lol
I've been studying at https://hamstudy.org/ and using the HRE-Tech iOS app (both question sets seem to be identical).. I probably have a good 1/3 - 1/2 of it down but I need to just sit down and learn the math formulas for the sections i'm in now (T5 & T6).
In looking at test sites it looks like there's one in Leesburg close to me that's administered at the Red Cross American Radio Relay League | Ham Radio Association and Resources that you can email and set up a time, which would be great.
Looking forward to catching up with you soon!

Hey there! Can you get me started on those waterproof connectors? Where to buy, what tools I need, etc. I'm still using marine grade crimp connectors and would love to take it to the next (correct way!) level...

Your kind of a legend (in my mind) I think I've gone your build thread at least 3x (2x before I had my runner) -- looking forward to meeting you and checking out your rig on the trip!
As for the connectors... I wish I could claim genius, but I really can't. I learned it all from Bodenzord

Honestly, his 6 part tutorial on the Bussmann is what I followed to a T (with minor modifications)
Most likely the connectors you're after are the Metri-pac ones (that's what I'm using) and figuring out what to order is a good question, it confused the heck out of me... The 280 series of connectors is rated at 30A which is why I chose to use them exclusively (for future circuit flexibility)
If you are not planning on wiring up a Bussmann, you will only need the male pins with the female tanged pins to go with the connectors (the Bussmann uses female tang-less pins)
I compared quantities vs. cost at both https://www.waytekwire.com and https://www.delcity.net you'll find you can get more for the same cost at one vs. the other...
Be careful, I got messed up at delcity - minimum quantity was 10, and there were 10 in a pack, figured i'd get 100 for waaay less than @waytekwire... yeah, I got 10 pins delivered to me -- lol.
On delcity.com go to "Wire Connectors & Quick Splices" on the left menu and then select "Metri-pack 280 Sealed Connectors" from there you can find the female and male connectors as well as the terminals, and in the connectors section you can find 2,3,4 etc. pin connectors.
On waytekwire.com go to "Connectors" on the left menu and then you can select "280 series" from the drop down on the left... from there you can filter and pick # of circuits etc...
I will say, after working with these, these connectors are the BOMB! I love that I could wire up everything on the Bussmann and then put dust caps on the mating connector to keep everything sealed up until i'm ready to install the accessory or harness.... [MENTION=137555]Sleeter[/MENTION] was over today, and I think he can attest to how awesome these things are. I'll probably have a bazillion of them in my rig before it's all said and done lol!!
If you need more clarification on my ramble, just let me know.. I've gone through this crap a million times trying to figure it out.

Awesome! I figured there was a pretty significant learning curve with these...thanks so much for taking the time! Your project looks really professional- it'll last forever too.
I wire things to last, but having quality connections that can be unplugged multiple times and remain waterproof and maintain integrity has always been a problem. These connectors solve that for sure.
I have ordered from Delcity before too, but these connectors get confusing!
