Spring "overland" trip George Washington National Forest

I'm excited for this trip. Hoping some of my rack accessories come in time. I may be bringing a friend of mine to fill the passenger seat as hubby will likely be driving his son back to KY.

Jeff aka Antman is meeting at my place, and we will head out for the 0445 convoy to VA. We are staying away from the DC Beltway, which I highly recommend to anyone that has to drive through the DC area.

Our route:

We will head SB on I-95 leaving from exit 77 in MD, then follow I-695 WB (exit 49B) to I-70 (exit 16A) WB. From 70, we'll head SB on US 340/15 though Harpers Ferry, then hook up with I-81 South into Virginia. I've driven this route several times to Summit Point WV and it's typically pretty uneventful. We're giving ourselves some extra time for a fuel stop.

Hey, I offered my house so it isn't a 4 hour ride or more for a bunch of people. It will be nice getting up at 7 and getting there by 8 :biggrin2:

I'm doing a half-day at work on Thursday then bugging out straight for Harrisonburg from McLean, VA.

For anybody wanting to caravan down on Monday mid-day and/or thinking of staying in Harrisonburg the night before:
I'm staying at the Courtyard in Harrisonburg.

If multiple people will be in Harrisonburg on Thursday, I'm happy to cancel my reservation and hit Switzer lake to camp and pre-run a trail or few in the area.

Yep. Download Gaia > import the file you downloaded from Outbound Overland. Alternatively​, create your Gaia account and access the route shared from the Outbound Overland Gaia account.

Great, thanks. Will there be a difference in my view between downloading the app vs just looking at it via Outbound site? I doubt I will have web access during much of this route (based on prior experience in the area).

I just added "Easy way to Flagpole via Dunkle Hollow" the trip folder on the website. You can download the route and maps for the entire trip and you will not need cell service.

I can't figure it out either. I tried to follow the directions from GAIA, they are worthless though. I don't have the option to download like their directions state.

Thinking we should meet up at the WAWA on Broad Street near SunBelt tool rental? 64 is right there, we can gas up, etc...

I can't figure it out either. I tried to follow the directions from GAIA, they are worthless though. I don't have the option to download like their directions state.

Some things to try:

I've attached the KML file to this post.

You can now just:
1) Download the KML file to your phone >
2) Remove the ".pdf" from the file name (forum software won't let me upload a .kml directly)
3) Launch Gaia app on your phone >
4) Open the menu (pictured below) >
5) At the bottom of the menu, select "import file" >
6) Navigate to wherever you downloaded/renamed the .kml file >
7) Select the file

That should do the import for you and the tracks should show up on the map (make sure the map is oriented over the area where the tracks are located (West of Harrisonburg)). Let us know how it goes. [emoji106]

Same route I was going to take!

I am starting from just South of the Baltimore Beltway taking I-97 N to 100 then 29 to hit I-70 W a few miles West of where 695 joins I 70.

I was planning on getting on the road around 5:30am but may move that up a bit.

I'll look for your convoy (@4RnR Grl and [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION]) out on I-70!

Still running CB Channel 17 for the ride down? Or going to 22 or 23 as [MENTION=137555]Sleeter[/MENTION] posted for the group rides?

im not sure I use the pro and didnt really look at what it cost ($40) I already had Gaia so i guess i have $60 into gaia.

I don't have a pro account. Just the app is more than enough.

If you haven't bought yet, I'd recommend just sticking with the app.
