Spring rate questions

So this is a GX470 question. But there's not a lot happening in that section so I hope you don't mind the cross post. Especially since it's basically the same vehicle as a V8 limited.

Anyway I put on an 8k mile old trd suspension from a 2017 4runner and I'm not happy with the side to side and nose dive. I was told the 550lb spring rate of the 13 inch long TRD springs I put on was too low and a 14" 700lb spring will fix this. That conversation was had on GXOR. I didnt want to ask there be I didn't want to be a dick.

700lbs sound like a pretty harsh ride. Can anyone here counsel me on the V8s and spring rate? Looking to get 2" of lift and add 285s bfgs on fnfx pros.

TIA

Any bumper, winch, skids, second battery, on board air, etc. up front to add extra weight? Stock weight I think 700 would be too stiff. 600 is about right, some prefer 650 if the rest of the rig is loaded down. 700 for heavy weight up front out in front of the front axles.

^ what he said.

I'm running 700# on my V8 4R, but I also have a bumper, winch and full skids. I love how how it rides with the 700# coils! And as far as too stiff, I still fully cycle the front suspension all the way up to the bump stop with the 700# coils installed at slow speeds

just with winch and bumper 650's were to soft on my V8 limited. Just recently stepped up to 700s and the ride is much better!

Been running 700# springs up front with stock bumper for a while. I think it rides and handles great, and only gets better with weight added. wouldnt change it

Running 2.5 swayaway coilovers with 13x650 springs. 07 V8 SR5. I’m on the hunt for 14x700lb springs. 650s ride great, but I’ve got a ton of preload cranked in to keep the nose up. No extra weight.

Is this your 'adult' T4R?
You have a 'kid' version T4R too right?

I have been liking the FJC coils on the front.
As far as I know they are about #660, comfortable around town...maybe a little soft for off road, you can smash them to the bumpstops...happy medium?

Icon just came out with a 700lb 14 inch spring. I was tempted to get that but no immediate plans on a bumper...

Thanks for the replies all.

Eibach and King make them as well, I’m just trying to pick up a used set. Around $100 each new, seen them at that price for 2 used...just not close enuf. I’ve seen them pop up used a few times, just waiting for the right set...

Any of you know what the spring rate on the 6112s are?

From what I’ve read, the 6112 has 600lb. springs made by Eibach. Most however complain that they are a bit too soft when used on a v8 model. Seems like 650 would be perfect without a steel bumper based on my research.

Dude thats awesome thank you! This is exactly what i thought but need confirmation.

You’re welcome. I’ve learned so much from this forum, that I always try to help whenever it’s something I have knowledge of. From what I’ve read, there are only 1, or 2 makers of springs in the correct diameter for the 6112 though, so finding 650’s in the right length and diameter is tricky. If you search though you should find info on where to get them on here. I wish I had made notes about it myself because that’s the route I’d take with those shocks. I may go with the 5100’s though, since my current Tacoma springs seem to work well, I just need a tad more height to get a bit more clearance of my new tires.

Even though they don't list them as a separate item on their website. Toytec sells their 650 pound springs separately. You just have to call them. I am confident that those will fit the 6112.

That’s good to know. Too bad they won’t credit you for the “old” ones if you wanted a different rate. Seems a shame to spend all that money for springs that you don’t want/can’t use. That is why I’m considering the 5100, even though the 6112 is a better shock. I have Icon 2.0 shocks in the rear, so I thought having the large body in the front with the 6112 made sense, but wasting extra money to replace brand new springs just rubs me the wrong way.

I thought

that you could order the 6112s with 650# coils...

After thinking about it. I may just go with a toytec coilover. They make a large body shock as well.

Not that I’ve read about, or seen advertised. If you know of a place that offers that, I’d love to hear about it though.

If you can afford coilovers, that’s the way to go since you can dial in the exact height you want, and even compensate for lean without spacers.

Well. Their all coilovers. But yes fully adjustable coilovers would be the way to go.

I keep flip flopping between the toytec boss 2.5 and the bilstein 6112 with some toytec 650 pound springs.

I would have to do a lot of research and trial and error I'm afraid, to get the height dialed in on the bilstiens. Where the boss 2.5s would be easy peasy. But there is a big price gap between the two. I guess it all boils down to what my time is worth...
