SPUNK build thread

Overhead members are in position. Next up are braces between the B Pillar and C Pillars that connect to this node.

Started welding up the seatbelt tubing and the rear connecting areas between the B and C Pillars. That, and the A and B pillar mounts are in place. The mounts are slugged, drilled, and bridge accross the frame and the rock sliders that were welded to the frame a while ago.

The roll cage has been lowered to weldup the overhead connections. These pictures are out of date, as the connections are fully welded now.

The frame mounts have been gusseted and painted--they will be bolted onto the frame and rock sliders, then welded-to once final fabrication is complete.

I found some blueprints for the 4runner frame, and made a rough solidworks version to fitup to the cage, my welded rock sliders, and my coilover conversion I did a while ago. That way, I can plan out the fuel cell, fire suppression, running fuel lines and such.

Next up are gussets on the upper cage and painting thereof.

About 24 out of 55 gussets have been welded in place, 5 of them welded all around. I'll finish tying in the corners once the welds on both sides of the plates are complete.

Driveable now

Howdy folks,

A good update. The A pillar and B pillar frame mounts are welded in, which puts back into the driveable state. However, it's helmets-on from here on out. Really stiffens the frame alot. Next up, phase 3 of the roll cage build, which is the lower section of the cage for the floor bars, lower cross bars and door bars.

C pillar mounts will be figured out after the fuel cell arrives.

rear down diagonals and door bars are in

Rear diagonals are in, and the door bars are in too. However, I'm X'ing the door bar area to give it more protection with Score tech's guidance. The upper red bar will probably be added once seats are in---even though this approach will make getting in and out easier, seats may be too big to fit through the hole.

The roll cage is completely welded and gusseted. A full 6+ point, Score compliant roll cage.

Currently, I am designing and fabricating the seat mounts.

Photo Dump!

Seats and harnesses are in! Spec roll cage is done. Still a long road to Baja, but this milestone feels oh so good. Cheers!
