Sputtering and coolant sprayed every where!

On my short 4 mile drive home from work the engine started sputtering like it was missfiring. Opened the hood and coolant is all over the top of the engine. So far no water in oil or oil in coolant. Ill check again when it cools. If im lucky and its not a head gasket , what kind of coolant leak causes sputtering and lss of powe? help would be great! oh btw, 146k miles, t-belt and water pump done at 100

I think you need to add some more details to get your question answered.

First and foremost, where is the coolant coming from?

If it's all over the TOP of the engine, it could be coming from:

1. Upper radiator hose
2. Coolant overflow tank
3. Coolant lines to/from the throttle body
4. Rear Heater lines

Also, did you check it out again once the engine cooled down?
