sputtering motor

For the first time yesterday the temp warmed above 35 and it was very damp from all the snow melt.Upon the warm up i noticed at first take off in morning with motor not completely warm that i have a sputtering missing on accel.but this smoothed out after motor was up to temp.I know this could be any number of things but can anybody narrow it down for me?

Well, not knowing your maintenance history, I would start with the ignition system (plugs, wires, coil packs/boots). Then I would move on to testing sensors (TPS, coolant temp sensor, possibly O2 but not likely). Cleaning the throttle body, IAC, and MAF may help. Then fuel system (fuel pressure, pump and filter), then injectors - test them 1st and then a flow test if it comes to that. After that I'd say valves, but you'll probably have found it before then.

Start with the ignition system. If you had a distributer cap, I would say that is your best bet. Make sure all the connections are tight, and add di-electric grease while you are in there to keep out the moisture. Be careful cleaning the MAF sensor. If you have an injector problem, you will most likely hear a ticking sound from the top end similar to what a slapping lifter sounds like (No lifters in your DOHC engine).

Definitely replace spark plugs and spark plug wires first. Check the wires to see when they were replaced as they have a date code stamped on them. I would recommend the Toyota wires.
