sputtering on startup occasionally after hill climbing.

It has only happened 2 times on my 97 ltd. Both times were when I'd done hill climbs up to viewpoints, turned the truck off to look around and then tried starting it again.


This last time though, It wouldn't start until the second try.

It basically starts sputtering as if its not getting enough fuel and gives the feeling that you need to hold down the throttle to prevent it from stalling out. After it drives for a bit, the issue goes away.

It has only happened twice over a period of several months of heavy usage, but I want to fix it before it leaves me stranded up a mountain.

Any ideas where to start?

This happened to me once. We were driving across the country and parked at a reststop. 15 minutes later we go to crank it back on and all it does is crank and ALMOST start. I let it sit for 2 minutes, and then tried starting it again....it was trying to start and then I gave it some gas and it fired up. Never happened again since.

I'll put fuel filter on the list, at 320,000 kms, its probably due regardless
