Squeak from under the hood

Hello all,

I developed a high pitch squeak from under the hood and I had my repair guy replace the surp for me, but that didn't fix the issue. It is mainly an issue when cold. I did already do some research in the forum that fit my issue and came up with tensioner, but that was a very old thread. Could it possibly need to be tightened? Any thoughts would be great. Thx in advance for any feedback

I'm willing to bet its the tensioner. Mines doing the same thing right now....VERY annoying. makes my truck look bad. must be replaced

Yeah, if it's only when the engine is running then it's got to be something with a bad bearing in it, the tensioner like Benjamn88 said or possibly the A/C compressor or the alternator. You can sometimes find which one it is by turning the pulley on each one by hand with the belt removed until you find one that makes a noise or doesn't feel smooth.

If it happens any time the engine is running, the tensioner makes sense.

I'm guessing this isn't your issue, but mine developed a squeak when driving. It sounded like it was right at the firewall but ended up being what I think was a switch detecting that the hood was closed. It's a box with a silver colored pin that moves up and down contacting the hood (driver side along the hood edge). The pin would squeak slightly when the hood shook over bumps. A little bit of grease fixed it... It camp back, and I never really messed with it again. This is on a 2003 v6. If this helps, it's an easy fix.
